Yeah... I put mats in our basement during covid, hung a heavy bag, and padded the walls. I ended up training in a cohort group with two other guys whose families were being really safe about stuff - all of us protecting someone with heightened health risks. It worked well for us.

I love it. It's a super-physical chess match. And when I fight, it requires so much focus, it ends up being the most peaceful time of day for me, if that makes any sense.

Yeah. Overall, martial arts is an effing mess of a bunch of ineffective, poorly taught, cult-like, strip-mall bullshit. But you can kind of break it down into three categories: grappling, striking, weapons. Some martial arts try to address all of those. Some specialize. But that's the framework.

I guess that's just two. Nevermind.

Anyway, that's been a struggle for me/topic of interest, as I have ventured into martial arts. And it's been a fun/challenging exercise to create rules/culture for the MMA training group I organize.

All of the rulesets have varying degrees of limitations, in the name of safety. Some good. Some absurd. But the more rules a martial art has, the less viable/realistic it is for actually fighting. In that context, I think it's really important to be aware of what bad habits the rules create.

Rules for fighting, by discipline, and across nations/organizing bodies, are super complicated, because they have such massive political, legal and liability considerations. It has taken me forever to parse the various rulesets.

I think they were talking UFC rules MMA fight. I don't think Elon has any fight experience. Zuckerberg has been training jiu jitsu (IBJJF ruleset), at least, with a coach who also has a solid judo (IJF) background. Both sports are grappling, with strangulation and joint dislocation techniques.

Yeah... Zuck does not have a high level of training, yet. But his coaches are legit. And the amount of training that he has makes him almost superhuman compared to an untrained fighter. I'm assuming someone probably advised Elon of this.
