Those two books had a huge impact on my thinking tho I was already headed in that direction. We also read Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery in class. My Mrs. Bailey wasn’t for everyone necessarily but she had a great sense of literature and justice.

Mrs. Bailey was my 7th and 8th grade teacher in the Iowa farm town where I grew up. It was her small classroom library that let me read Johnny Got His Gun and Hiroshima.

I paid my therapist a zillion dollars to tell me this, so I’m passing it on to anyone else in MN who needs to hear it:

My last manager genuinely had no idea I could be denied re-entry by a CBP officer every time I traveled back to the US, even with a valid work visa. I worried about what I posted on social media all the time. I also paid for my own TN visa renewal/reapplication two weeks before I was laid off.

After executing Alex Pretti on Saturday, ICE has shifted to primarily targeting bus stops and elementary schools in my community this week. I cannot overstate how much of the ICE activity in my community is just targeting places where little kids are.
