I photograph 'The Unexpected.' Have had a camera around my neck since that Brownie in the 1950s. Trying to be a realistic optimist. I'll take optimistic realist, if I can keep it. #photographer #photography

A silhouette of a photographer is seen walking up a road into the Panamint Mountain Range at Badwater in Death Valley. California, US. The clouds are rolling in like ocean waves. Blue Hour creates muted shades of blue, purple and magenta. © Nancy Goodenough

This one stopped me. It's so beautifully done. The colors. The movement. The serenity. The composition. It all works.

"Once Long Ago..." Photograph of Death Valley Mesquite Dunes manipulated via vertical stretching so slopes become tall mountain peaks, creating a very surreal near-monochrome image in saffron and black. However, the scene is real, just stretched. Unstretched, photographers who have spent time at Stovepipe Wells/Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley will quickly recognize the dunes and the Panamint Mountain Range in the background. NO Artificial Intelligence AI used in image. All by my hand in postprocessing, various versions over the years since photographed on 4/20/2011.

A Kokanee salmon run is presented as a triptych with black bars between the run divided vertically in three parts. The Kokanee Salmon are 12-20 inches and during spawning, the males turn bright red and develop a humped back and an elongated jaw and the females turn dark red. This run is in Taylor Creek from South Lake Tahoe to Falling Leaf Lake, California and photographed on October 3, 2013. Canon 5DMark3 with Canon 70-300mmL lens.

Cy, thanks for the info. It may be the first and last cat pic on Bluesky from me. All our cats are underground unfortunately. This one I captured on sensor on a street in Bangkok. Loads of attitude. Seen as sublime by you, even better.

1littlendian,I usually try to say 'fabulous bokeh' rather than just 'bokeh,' since bokeh is the QUALITY of the OOF, not the actual circles we love so much.

Most of us pronounce it 'BO-kuh,' but those who are being more accurate say 'BO-KAY' as in 'bouquet.' I say 'BO-kuh' like the masses do.

1littlendian, thanks. Boomer here too!

Basically, bokeh is the QUALITY of out-of-focus (OOF) or “blurry” parts of the image rendered by a camera lens – it is NOT the blur itself or the amount of blur in the foreground or the background of a subject.

A couple in silhouette are on a swinging county fair ride, reaching out to each other holding hands. Bokeh of bright colors, dominated by red, form the background. Taken at Sonoma County Fair.

Love. Joy. County Fair.

Travis, it was backlit so the camera captured light filtering in thru part of the iris from the back. I did a lot of postprocessing with the tools of the day in 2012, particularly Nik & PS layers with mode changes. Brought it up to date for today's posting, but it appears I had the same vision then.

In case it's not obvious, this is a closeup/macro of a dark purple iris, looking like you're viewing into a surreal cave with magical lighting. 2011
