If any sharky grad students want to do a larger-scale version of this, do it with my blessing, just let me know how it goes!

And here's a template paper for fisheries from @trevorabranch.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

NSF is re-hiring nearly all fired probationary employees following an OPM directive and a Friday judge order.

This is 84/86 probationary staff being hired back; 84 "experts" are still terminated

Most of the money that researchers spend is on paying other researchers. In other words, canceling research funds is taking money out of local economies by removing people and their spending power from them. πŸ§ͺ

Seeing that NSF panels are being cancelled. How will this affect the GRFP? I’m sure there will be some impact, similar to NIH panel cancellations leading to some grad programs reducing the number of spots for this year. πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

Wow! People spend 30-50% of their time thinking about something other than what they are currently doing. Glad to know it's not just me & excited to dig into this review later. #Neuroskyence www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Happy Norbert Rillieux Day! He was an African American inventor who came up with a process to turn sugar cane juice into sugar crystals. #Halloween would be nothing without his innovation.

Jinx the black leopard at Florida Big Cat rescue absolutely tearing into a pumpkin. You can read more about Jinx (and his rescue story) here:

The news in the world is awful, but it's almost Halloween, so let's talk about pumpkin enrichment for big cats.

This is Jinx the black leopard (Big Cat Rescue, Florida) enjoying shredding a pumpkin.
