There simply is no substitute for the time-, personnel-, & $$$-intensive way of providing quality education. That we don't want to pay for it, as a society, does not make this any less true, & AI cannot fix that. At best, it can poorly substitute for the real solution.

Apparently all it takes is to put the most confidently dumb people in charge of everything! Who wouldโ€™ve guessed?

It would be enough to disqualify him from having an opinion on the subject except heโ€™s in charge of the whole damn thing.

I legitimately started the quote tweet with an attempt to explain, in common terms, why a vaccine that protects against โ€˜every virusโ€™ is not a realistic goalโ€ฆ but the entire thing is so dumb, I donโ€™t even know where to start. It would take 1000 words to explain all the ways this makes no sense.

Honestly, a perfect encapsulation of the current state of AI:
It's technically impressive and spiritually bankrupt.

I canโ€™t get over the ridiculousness of this. What is this saving exactly? Itโ€™s not any more time to voice to text a message that youโ€™re going to be 15 minutes late. What youโ€™re compensating for is not lack of time. Itโ€™s a lack of humour, creativity, intelligence & relationship with your spouse.

Pretty sure a Good Wife would receive that jokey AI message and have all your useless shit waiting for you on the front lawn with the locks changed in the 15 minutes you were late.

Legit, itโ€™s fascinating how much more we have accessibly written in English about Greek civilization than other concurrent civilizations. Not just big accomplishments but random shit. I mean, it makes sense but it skews our view of history.

This is a very important touch point for Indian culture. From here every Indian mother had an unattainable comparison point for all their childrenโ€™s achievements.

โ€œOh you established trade with the Greek civilization? Thatโ€™s nice. You know Uncle Sanjay? Well his son Mahaviraโ€ฆโ€

in my experience the problem with younger tech guys is really not what they don't know. they are very smart. they are however constitutionally incapable of knowing what they don't know. depending on the project, this makes them extremely risky hires

the absolute smartest people I know know a lot, but more notable is that they are constantly moving things from the don't know they don't know category into the realm of things they know they don't know. the problem is that that's an attitude to develop and not a skill to learn.

there might after all be a connection between โ€” to use the idiotic terms โ€” EQ and IQ. I've discovered there certainly is at an elite level at least

Caught this in @maxread.infoโ€™s latest and this is such a good articulation of the difference between early 20s ambitious young people and folks who have a bit of experience (including failure).

โ€œItโ€™s an attitude, not a skillโ€ is it in a nutshell.

Berries lost 4-2 and there was no pierogi hot dog that I could find. But the Berry Burger was solid, as was the 9-Mile Saskatoon berry beer. And the Sundaes in the mini-helmets were an easy win / souvenir.

Good experience. Would do again!

Real dilemma for me tonight is if Iโ€™m going to have the pierogi hot dog (cheese, bacon bits, fried onions, sour cream) or their burger that has Saskatoon berry aioli.

Tough choices.

Checking out some baseball tonight. Going to see the fantastically named Saskatoon Berries. Excellent website work by the Berries:

Chardon is another Saskatoon summer pop up ice cream shop in a parking lot. You can get hard ice cream but their claim to fame is vanilla soft serve dipped in various flavours. Itโ€™s good but I donโ€™t think vanilla soft serve is our familyโ€™s favourite.

Yeah I mean, either heโ€™s still got enough in the tank to be good enough or he doesnโ€™t. So if he does, you sign him. But Iโ€™d rather wait at least half a year to make that call.

Ekholm especially is going to turn 36 before his next contract starts. If you sign him now, that extension has the potential to look bad by November this year.

If heโ€™s having a good year, then sure, haggle over a 1 vs 2 year extension.

McDavid is expected though until itโ€™s signed people will wonder.

Walman will turn 30 this season so an extension makes sense but if itโ€™s too long you worry about a cliff in his 30s.

Podkolzin doesnโ€™t seem a high priority to me.

Ekholm I wouldnโ€™t re-sign before the season, at 35 & post-injury.
