History teaches us that banners on buildings ultimately don’t matter …… and the spirit of inevitable revolution and opposition is never “televised”

I posted this one year ago at what was probably the height of Trump’s power.
There’s more work to be done but these five things still make up a pretty good outline of how we save our democracy - not through resignation and capitulation but through determination and action.
We can do this.

I’m standing in front of a portrait of Frederick Douglass. He said: “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”
It’s time to be tough and fight back!
Great visit this morning with Governor Wes Moore of Maryland (and my son who works on his staff). Trying to convince legislators in their state senate to stand up to Trump & Republicans and their mid cycle gerrymander. This nefarious effort will devalue the votes of the citizens of that great state.

This is insane, unscientific and extremely dangerous
What kind of world do these ignorant, rapacious zealots want to leave to our children and grandchildren???
These are my remarks from that remarkable day: open.substack.com/pub/erichold...
Note the theme I struck as we started out the rebuilding of the DOJ. Another Attorney General will also have to rebuild from the wreckage that is now the Justice Department.
17 years ago today, I was sworn in as the first Black Attorney General of the United States during Black History Month.

This indictment is a shameful, pitiful, improper joke.
www.nytimes.com/2026/01/30/u...
Just as Mamie Till refused to hide the visual truth that was her son Emmett’s beaten body in the 1950s, just as we saw the visual truth of the beating of John Lewis on the Pettus bridge in 1965, we must confront the visual truth of agents killing U.S. citizens in Minneapolis.
Do not look away.
Bovino is not leaving Minneapolis cause he wants to. Not cause Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Vance or Trump want him to go.
He’s leaving because the extraordinary “ordinary” citizens of that great city - by peacefully protesting en masse - kicked him out.
Lesson to be learned. We have power.
Who is this quack? Who is this hack putting the lives of millions at risk by rejecting decades of vaccine success. Get rid of all of these nut jobs-starting at HHS top.
Did you vote for this?

So let me get this straight. The Justice Department WON’T investigate the shooting of a woman protesting ICE excesses in Minnesota but WILL investigate the Governor and Mayor?
What are you going to charge the Mayor and Governor with? “Felony disagreement?”
Absurd and shameful.
I was honored to receive the Reverend Fred L. Shuttleswoth Human Rights Award at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama this past week. You can read my full remarks on my Substack.

The Supreme Court has to be constitutionally bypassed.
We will remain in this fight to ensure that voters in Texas—and across the country—have maps that reflect their communities and uphold the principle of equal representation.
The Court is also repeating the very mistakes in Milligan that delayed justice and denied fair representation to Black voters in Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia.
Texans and voters across the country deserve fair, representative congressional maps.
By allowing an egregiously racially gerrymandered map that brazenly dilutes the voices of communities of color to stand, the Court is not only turning a blind eye to discrimination—it is actively enabling it.

Ok. Let’s cut to the chase. This is absolutely nuts. This is dangerous. One more quack in charge of the nation’s health. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Remember ALL of this craziness - in so many areas - every time you vote.

Great to be with the incomparable @profmmurray.bsky.social at the @texastribune.org festival.
Never underestimate the power of the American people. We need to keep organizing, making our voices heard and pushing back against Republicans efforts to gerrymander & circumvent the will of the people.
Looking forward to my conversation with
