New Zealand’s is on April 10th! Good grief. It used to be in August. What’s wrong with us?
I’m presenting two workshops. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Same time as Saturdays. It was left off the programme. 10 people per workshop.
Booktown launch tonight. In theory I’m in the program for two workshops on Bookbinding 4th Century codex. I wonder what the colour scheme will be this year. I try to match my leather purchase. I’m considering offering a fabric option, but I need to experiment first.
We feed the world but cannot feed ourselves. I’m not sure what there is to be proud of there.
This crisis was avoidable.
But we are in it now.
Keep your tank full.
Past time to transition away from fossil fuels.
Get writing to our MPs and Ministers.
Buy an EV if you can.
Did you know when they ambo you to Palmerston North from the Wairarapa. They don’t make sure you can get home. On my way on a 4 hour round trip to pick up my 85 year old father-in-law.
This. Our government are morons.
Now might be the time to stop using artificial fertiliser. I know it can be done. I’ve met farmers who do it. They tell me it’s cheaper too.
Tractors and trucks are another problem. But if the mines in Australia use massive electric trucks, why can’t we have electric trucks and tractors too.
Wouldn’t this be a perfect place to go 100% electric?

Years ago I suggested each news broadcast start with a Climate Change news segment. The first thing we all hear from our national news service. To keep it in front of mind. But alas, it’s the last thing people want to hear.
Given we were reliant on overseas crude before the refinery shut down our situation isn’t much different. We have less than a month even with fuel currently on route.
Our govt in its infinite wisdom 🙄 only set up a committee yesterday.
We are so ducked.
Glad we own an EV.
Glad my project management certificate came in handy for something.
Ask for help. Please. Just ask. How come Boomers don’t ask for help? I’ve spent the weekend dealing with in-laws that really really need help, but don’t want to inconvenience us. It’s worse for everyone if you tough it out. Just ask. Please. Ask for help. I’ve seen a lot. I won’t judge.
The economics of CC is something I’m not clued up on enough. I know apart from the higher outlay of the EV, compared to a petrol car, we’ve been saving money by embracing electricity.

I've been fortunate enough to meet many formidably smart, fully committed, & thoroughly decent people who, for years, have strived to try to avert dangerous climate change.
They failed.
Saying that does not lessen my gratitude to them, 1/11

This is not good enough. Clearly it’s okay for Christian white men to molest and rape girls and women. Get a light sentence, in fact go back to the same group of vulnerable girls and women to keep offending.
I’m so mad I can’t even articulate how mad I am.
Taking action on climate change, like solar, wind, improved home insulation, etc all save money. Instead of doubling down on fossil fuels, we can gain energy sovereignty. Toss our reliance on imported fossil fuels.
Yea. I’m not a fan of the ETS. I think it masks the real problem of reducing CO2 emissions and kicks the can down the road. Why work hard at reducing emissions when you can buy your way out of it.
Then there is the current problem of no one wanting to buy them.
Nice.
Here in NZ we feel removed from many of the threats of climate change. Like it’s happening to other people.
I think we are already experiencing the effects of it, but it looks slightly different here.

How about we start mining municipality dump sites. We can clean them us as we go. Lots of economic minerals in our rubbish.
So our mineable minerals are small, but perfectly formed. Overseas business would have to mine them and take them off shore to process since we don’t have the capability.
In my opinion extracting them would not benefit us. Oh we might get a few jobs out of it.

This will be interesting to follow. If there is success here will other sites follow, and then countries? Could we?
A new and disturbing problem. Space travel and satellite launches polluting our upper atmosphere.
