"Good tsar, bad boyars" has been a recurring theme of Trumpism every year the dude's been office. It's wild.

Even when they show signs of weakness or forced regret, we must not give an inch. Authoritarian governments still respond to public opinion, which is why sustained pressure matters. We have to keep making clear that these thuggish actions are unconscionable and will not be tolerated. Don’t let up.

A text thread:

Also from DMPD officer - ICE isn't coordinating with DMPad

From BLANK: DMPD just came into Raygun and let my coworkers know that ice is sending 300 more agents into Des Moines tomorrow.

To all Des Moines friends: They've sent more ice to Des Moines for this month. Let your family know not to go out when they dont need to. There is a reason why Kim Reynolds is trying to make it law that cops comply with ice agents.

Especially with the SE Asians. Drill it into your family that they ain't white. Ice does not give af if theyre citizens. They will get snatched.

Heads up. BLANK told BLANK ice has been here since Thursday, and they are targeting Asians and Hispanics. They rented 15 cars for a month and they are "meeting" at the air guard and base in Camp Dodge.

Heads up, #Iowa folks.

Well, a) that mellowing was much more around the economic sphere- social and political reform was meager and b) to your earlier point, any reform that came about did because of intense external pressure, both positive and negative

If you create things: Don’t ever believe they’re dead. Believe you have an opportunity to finish what you start. Believe good work will stay with your readers. Believe that sometimes, you get a second chance.

I’m gonna take a goddamn nap now

Six months ago, my editor contacted me and gave me the opportunity to finish this work. I have written another 50,000 words and today I just turned in my final updated article. 3.5 years, 750,000 words: No idea how I actually feel at this moment.

NEWS. 13 years ago, I started work on an encyclopedia of U.S. military actions. Three years of work, 700,000 words- and two weeks after turning in the last article, the publisher axed the project.

I am 50 and I desperately want to stop making decisions. The old bastards running this country are deeply sick. Stay home and do Legos and learn how to make gnocchi, what the fuck are you doing

The US government installed “hereditary chiefs” across countless Native American nations, in order to have someone “credible” to sign treaties with. Literally one of the first things we did as a country

In my sci-fi novel Acadia from 2013:
-A Russia-related scandal leads to a complete overhaul of the US intelligence community
-An anti-Mexican demagogue briefly seizes power
-the richest man in the world rules space in collusion with pro-AI forces that secretly shape US foreign policy

The Mothma Doctrine was proven correct; while the First Order and Final Order bet on huge capital ships which could force the surrender of key planets, neither could deal with the numbers or agility of the Citizens’ Fleet once concentrated. This is why the First Order destroyed Hosnian Prime-
