The branches of a tree, covered with white blossom, against a blue sky.

I spent far too long figuring out how much you have to tilt the map for Ipswich to be level with Luton because Stansted Airport simply can't be in the Midlands. Luton, though, is definitely coded Brum.

Honestly, anyone confused by British conceptions of class would be utterly enlightened by watching Grayson Perry's series from a few years back. One of the best observations I've ever found. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_in_...

Aged 17, my best mate amd I arranged for this to be played in our secondary school assembly, for some spurious reason. A lot of baffled 12 year olds that morning. And teachers, tbf

A neon pink post it note on which I have drawn with a black sharpie and my eyes shut. Top left, a bit cat like. Bottom left, a deranged mouse cum snowman. Top right, almost a Halloween cat wearing a witch's hat. Bottom right, a passable loaf.

Clockwise from top left... Furious cat. Almost Halloween cat. Loaf. Snowman mouse.

Despite being an avowed heathen, I find this deeply moving. The very essence of humanity. And also, objectively, quite funny

Bees were once described as 'Coorus craiturs’ and have played their role in the history and folklore of Shropshire. You can read more about this lore by following the link below. 🐝 🐝 🐝

Oh, good tip, I'll look into that, thanks! CDs are my preference, but permanent access to a download would be a good second best.

I feel this strongly about much BBC radio content. I can only listen to my favourites when BBC Sounds deign to make them available (apart from some notable exceptions available from the Internet Archive). I'd love to have them on CD if I could.

One of my husband's early, unsigned bands recorded an album. A friend snuck one of their songs onto her company's cd that was circulated to their coffee shops nationally. For a few years, friends and relatives would report hearing it in cafes. Never earned a penny, but it gave them a wee thrill.

In case this helps ruin your evening, I just reread Adrian Mole and his mother was 37 and his father 41 during the first book 😆 (I'm a fair bit older than that now!)

My pleasure, truly. I just reread (for the millionth time) Adrian Mole, and it always reminds me how anxious people were, how powerless they felt, but how we're all built to be interested in the small details of our lives, not just to fret about the big picture. Hope you have a nice evening ahead x

Two things I find helpful. First, doing small helpful things hyper locally. (In my case, conservation volunteering). Second, reading first person accounts (real or fictional) from earlier decades, for perspective. E.g. how people got through the 1980s cold war period.

The outside of a bar, the facade reads 'Jacksons drinkmonger'.

While in Glasgow for the recording we also discovered that not only can iron, fish and meat (debatable) be monged, apparently so can drink. Hats off Glasgae

We absolutely adored being at the recording, looking forward to listening once my husband gets in from work. Thanks for all the years of FMB! It was the humour ❤️

My linocut horseshoe crab is hand printed on 8” x 8” cream coloured Japanese paper speckled with some tiny brown bark inclusions. The crab is viewed from above and its body is printed with a base of grey, with some darker gold-green especially around the edges to give the impression it is a bit domed and then texture, edges, hairs around the edge of the horseshoe shape and the tail are printed in dark brown.

Day 7 #artAdventCalendar my #linocut horseshoe crab (Tachypeus gigas) in grey, blue-bronze and dark brown on 8” x 8” cream-coloured Japanese paper with bark inclusions. 🧪🐡 They get their name from their horseshoe like shape but they are not crabs; they are chelicerates, more closely related to 🧵

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
