In fairness, Chelsea actually played well for 75 minutes but PSG could bring Kvaratskhelia off of the bench and he took over. Spurs are a basket case - City are the ones who will be the most disappointed/concerned
Are we SURE that England will get 5 Champions League spots next year?
I'm not sure I've seen many people criticising only the players. There’s no doubt the issue last night such as defending set pieces and wide open gaps were structural, which is down to Slot. There were also times good organisation (winning the ball high up) was let down by poor, or dozy execution.
Give one to the ref while we're at it
Liverpool need a kick up the arse. Not figuratively.
A literal Bishop Brennan boot for each and every one of them.
Or are here specifically because of the nonsense tangents! It's a bonus that the current system does allow for feedback to either back up or puncture our delusions
Every FA Cup round this season featuring Premier League teams has seen at least one knocked out by lower league opposition.
In my mind I'd say "this is the downside of the Substack generation - a lack of an editor", but then I remember how enraged I was every time an editor snipped even one of my words.
Liverpool’s open training session threw up a new fitness concern ahead of their return to Galatasaray in the Champions League. All eyes will be on Arne Slot’s pre-match press conference to see how serious it could be.

‘Pockets’ not earned.
‘Flashes’ not cooled down.
For ‘gold medal tears’ read over-emotional and mercantile.
This, and a thousand instances like it, is the problem.

Andrew Robertson shouted the name of Rio Ngumoha as often as the travelling fans, as he coached the youngster through his man of the match performance. The Scot has seen many youngsters in his 9 years at Liverpool, and believes Ngumoha has what it takes:

Turns out the sequel was better than the original. Liverpool took a while to warm up, but they're one game from Wembley thanks to a teenager putting the team on his back.

Liverpool make 4 changes to the starting line-up from the Premier League defeat here on Tuesday, but the most notable team news is on the bench as Florian Wirtz returns
It's the Press Conference Review from @mo-stewart.bsky.social with Wirtz update, slow style of play, schedule and team selection, mood for three matches in a week, Mo's question about slow starts, and more ...

While I think that is true, this season shows the extremes of both ideologies run into problems. If the Klopp method didn't work at all it wouldn't have been as successful as it was, same with Slot last year. I would look at it as a sliding scale, where Liverpool need to move back to the middle.
Arne Slot was clear today: he’s not instructing Liverpool to slow games down.
But if that’s the case, why does the pattern keep repeating?

Liverpool’s defeat at Wolves was highly irritating to all who follows them, and Arne Slot brought that energy into this morning's press conference.
He pushed back at ideas that he is encouraging his players to play slowly, but did offer some good news around a return for Florian Wirtz
An entertaining game at the Etihad saw the spoils shared. City's still find it hard to put teams to the sword, while Forest's England pair put themselves firmly in the shop window.

2 changes for Manchester City and Nottingham Forest tonight.
No doubting the headline news: the return of the (vi)king

Football often tells coaches that you're only as good as your last game, and Arne Slot is certainly finding that out this season. Another good run was ended by a bad defeat last night, and this one came at the worst possible time.

This week's match report will be from the Etihad tonight, so my subscriber piece is on Liverpool, and how bad play can be compounded by bad timing.

A lot of the national media have been critical of Arne Slot’s comments yesterday, but not only are they understandable, I think they help us to understand Liverpool and some of their issues this season:

“This isn’t the football of my heart.”
Arne Slot didn’t expect the Premier League to look like this.
If this trend continues for 4–5 years, does Liverpool’s entire recruitment model have to adapt?
Full analysis in today’s Press Conference Review.

Arne Slot gave some fascinating opinions on the current state of the Premier League, and offered an insight into how the trends will shape Liverpool’s present and future.
More on this in the press conference review out later today
