That was easier to do when Salah was still the future of the Liverpool attack. He is still an important figure in the present, but more important is finding a structure that works without him.

I find it hard to believe that they would promise to continue to prioritise Salah when buying Isak.

In fairness to Slot I do remember him saying the same last year, although it was in the context of why he stuck to a small core of starters. He is consistent on that point, even if as I suggest it is flawed.

I don't agree that framing either, but it suggests that it's been a continuous problem with no sign of looking for a solution. However, that is exactly what that 450m outlay was. The issue is that it hasn't worked yet.

The point is, if there’s an opportunity to get a shot away - and from 25 yards, not 35 - then it's an opportunity to score. That it was handed to them is another reason why it shouldn't be dismissed as Slot did.

Context is required in those numbers, such as the games after winning the league.

450m invested doesn't acknowledge the players that left the club. This amount of upheaval is not what league winners usually do.

The fact that Slot’s side were so good before that shouldn't be ignored either.

Arne Slot has had some time to digest the Sunderland result and is now able to take some positives from it. However, he knows his side will have to be much better at some familiar failings to get the better of Leeds United.

No, it's definitely hyperbole. Hodgson didn't have the squad because the players that he picked - at a time when the manager had more control over those decisions than the 'head coach' has now - were awful.

Liverpool were literally in the bottom three at times under Hodgson. This is not the same.

A Stalemate that was heavy on the stale. Liverpool fail to build on the win at West Ham, as promoted Sunderland earn a deserved point.

"At least we didn't lose" at home to Sunderland is a million miles away from where Liverpool want to be, or should be. However, that's the reality of their current position. Massive improvement needed to get even a point from Elland Road at the weekend.

Salah not coming off the bench vs West Ham was rare — just the 4th time it’s ever happened.
But Slot says he reacted exactly how you’d want from a senior player: supportive, involved, team-first.
