It's not easy, but it helps a lot in the long run! In many cases, games have to be descoped in order to be finished, and prioritizing shipping the game with the resources available over making "the game of your dreams" is something super important!

Love your game, but don't let that love blind you.

You need to be able to disconnect emotionally from it.

This helps massively when taking on feedback and changing course if things aren't feeling right.

It's obvious, but not easy as with most things in this world

Viv is 100% correct here. Your options are always one of three:

1. Do not make an indie game.
2. Get funding, usually by making something that fits a very narrow and useless definition of "safe", and subsequently losing agency over your production reality.
3. Have another income or means.

Hi everyone! 🦊🧡 My name is Nico and I’m developing a small indie adventure game called A Stranded Spark! The demo is available on Steam! 🏝️

I took the Christmas holidays to rest from game development and I focused in playing games, which I haven't done in a very long time. I played 6-7 titles so far and I feel already full of ideas and energy to keep developing✨

With this, I just wanted to say: TAKE TIME TO REST AND PLAY MORE GAMES! 🧡🦊

Exactly! The same people from whom I heard “oh but I don’t play games” were the ones giving me the best feedback in every aspect of the game

It’s very fulfilling to be able to change some people’s mind about games, making them see the positive side of playing, and putting in their heads the thought that if there’s a book or a movie for everyone, then there’s also a video game for everyone. They just have to find it. 🦊🎮

One of the things that I love to do with my games is bringing them to art markets. People don’t expect to find there videogames made with the same love and caring as hand-made ceramics, jewerly, illustrations or clothes.

A tiny 3D trick I learnt from a friend:

📦👀 Here you can see how I’m applying the base flat colors by playing with the UV placement and using a single 128x128 texture with ALL the colors that will be used inside the game.

☝🏻🤓 This way I ensure a consistent color palette just using a 2kb image!

People often talk about minimum requirements, but what about MAXIMUM REQUIREMENTS? 🤯

I have uncommon surnames and the kids in school used to laugh at me because they sounded like "tomato" and "onion" in Spanish, so I embraced it with honor 🍅🧅
