The Peacemaker finale was the kind of last chapter I often love as a viewer/reader, and as a writer, where the climax was actually the penultimate chapter and the resolutions here are primarily character-based. Which is an approach that seems to have frustrated some, but I loved Season 2.

As a protest optics nerd love about the inflatables is how much they visually disrupt and pull focus from the fascist shock imagery Noem & Miller are trying to create.

So many of these photos now look like the world's silliest dance party, backgrounded by a bunch of guys in uniform looking awkward

And it’s not just publishers. Even the timelines for getting confirmation of guest invites or approvals of exhibitor table applications are so often weighed heavily against international creators who need to plan trips early for a better shot at flight costs that aren’t prohibitively expensive.

I’m not going to US cons now, but as a non-American creator, this was a frequent frustration. I’m planning potential trips like 9 months in advance, messaging publishers about if they’ll be there to weigh if it’s worth the trip, and they’ll be like “We’ll know for sure a month before the con.”

It’s all about the Halloween comics for me this month, with ORLA! #3 and its seasonal house party setting released in comic shops on 22nd October and SINK: Halloween Special live now on Kickstarter at comixtribe.com/sink. A double-bill of spooky treats!

Even The Morning Show, which has come to have the most tepid, lukewarm normie takes on hot button issues, astutely summed up the dead end of this obsession with AI shilling with, “Barely anyone even knows what AI is, and those who do think it’s creepy and don’t want anything to do with it.”

Again, generally if tech is truly “inevitable,” its impact will be immediate and undeniable, its benefits tangible. It shouldn’t require untold billions being spaffed on finding some kind of purpose or application, paired with scolding and threatening people to adapt to it or else.

You see this all over. Even in ads supposedly showcasing the revolutionary power of genAI, it’s being used to… find recipes, get directions, shit we could already do! So we get overcomplicated, malfunctioning garbage to act as workarounds for basic tasks. The Wallace & Gromit school of inventions.

Why do something arcane and incomprehensible like just recording a video of yourself teaching the lesson that can be sent to absentee pupils when you can drop a fortune in crafting bespoke AI slop that can spout incorrect information at them? Yet again, genAI is a “solution” in search of a problem.
