American Golden Plover on Holy Island recently, a lovely bird to see and it was as close as you could ever ask for! #NEBirding #UKbirding

Back in Norfolk for a few days, and there's been a good run of spring migrants - Osprey, Whinchat and Ring Ouzel are some highlights, but the best find was when my dad and I walked up to the water meadows on Thursday and had a funny duck pointed out to us - drake American Wigeon! #norfolkbirding

Took a much needed break from dissertation writing to see the brilliant White-winged Black Tern at Saltholme yesterday. A brilliant bird to bring me back after two months with very little time for birding. #NEBirding #teesbirds #UKbirding

I'd say it's the gentrification, overexpansion of tourism, rampant off-lead dogs and unfavourable land management practices that are having a more immediate impact. The tranquility of many spaces up here is a stark contrast!

I don't think it makes a difference for the pipit but it's more likely to be on the interior saltmarsh and strand line at high tide; access-wise I'd say low tide marginally better as sand at the shoreline is much firmer

Just a classic Northumberland winter!

Probably fairly easy if it's in the same areas as today (the tideline on the west side of the point, and the saltmarsh in the NE corner of Wide Open). I did the 2.5 mile walk in 40 minutes and while it's very flat the first half mile is an icy road and most of the rest is sand!

Northumberland strikes again! Just when we thought it was winding down, in comes Neil Osborne with this brilliant American Buff-bellied Pipit. Great to watch it on the tideline briefly before it flew to the "gap". Nice to meet @markaeaton.bsky.social and @banktopbirder.bsky.social there too.

A day for the history books in the northeast today. White-billed Diver and Grey-headed Lapwing were brilliant in themselves, but the adult Ross's Gull at South Shields is in a league of its own. Utterly speechless. #NEBirding
