an endless line of vehicles, some with closed tops, some with broken windshields with people sticking their heads around and through the door window. children sitting in the open backs of trucks or wagons. behind them, one huge column of smoke rises above a larger miasma of smoke and who knows what particulates that make the air brown and gray. on the side of the road, uncleared rubble. it looks like a photo of a modern wagon train, or the modern fleeing of pompeii.
