Before Australia has managed to get a social media ban in place, we have Google preparing to release its AI chatbot Gemini to kids under 13. Given growing evidence people are using these (unregulated) technologies for support/therapy - we need to be concerned www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

Wearable tech can monitor our health but why are doctors so sceptical?
Wearable tech claims to help monitor our health, but many doctors remain sceptical.
Three reasons why experts remain cautious about wearable generated health data:
- no international standards for hardware/software/data formats
- movement (of wearer + wearable itself) creates noise in the data
- batteries not powerful enough for continuous monitoring

Medicareβsubsidised mental health service use during the first 15 years of life in New South Wales: a population cohort study
Additional work is needed to ensure equitable access to mental health services for all young people in Australia
A new MJA paper using population data (n=86,759) found that 26.9% of children in NSW had used MBS subsidised services (psychologists, psychiatrists, OTs & social workers) prior to age 15. We need to start young with prevention & personalised support!
