and it's not like a task on a list that somehow keeps hanging around because I just never get into it -- this is like my top priority and has been for literal years like most of my days are centered around trying and failing to do some work on it, even though it's like 3-5 days of work at most

it's like being stuck on the same exact day that repeats endlessly but other people around you still count it as other days and time moves on as months go by, then years, soon decades, while I'm still here on the 8th of October 2024 trying to motivate myself to work on my second video

perhaps the most unproductive person in the world is the one who's in denial about having ADHD...

on that note I do not have ADHD it just takes me 5 years to release one 10-minute long video even though I keep thinking and stressing about it literally every day... for years... yes...

How do you even make a video that's over an hour long, in which you just summarize the narrative with adding barely anything substantial to the pot? Why do it at that point. I've been struggling for months trying to make my videos "worth watching in the first place," but I guess I don't have to...

I've been looking into tons of already existing YouTube content on Subahibi, however it only makes me angry, as these people who claim to love the visual novel more than anything blatantly misrepresent it and lack the means to comprehend subtext or any level of thematic depth...

I suppose they wanted to reach a broader audience, but in doing so betrayed what made Pathologic so special in the first place.

Is Pathologic 3 a good game? Yes.
Is it a good Pathologic game? Debatable.

This game is not in the need for a full restructuring, it just needs a few minor tweaks and a massive commitment to difficulty for the sake of raising the stakes and communicating that mechanical pressure effectively.

From that perspective, the mechanical systems work fine. They communicate this idea well, but so far you can outrun the consequences with such a huge lead, they will pretty much never catch up to you. The game even gives you Simon's vaccine to fully refill all your amalgam like you'd ever need it.

The idea is that while in Pathologic 2 you were confronted with direct threats that required some form of sacrifice, Pathologic 3's thematic angle looks more like running away from making that sacrifice, searching for the perfect solution that requires no sacrifice before the consequences catch up.

All of this should have been harder, vastly so, across all mechanical systems. Time travel more expensive, mirrors being one time use, absolutely no sprinting, no in-game world mania raising interactables like kicking trashcans - these should be only used to decrease mania like the swings, etc.

The only good moment is when you accidentally zoom past a death trap inside the infected districts while you're trying to outrun the Shabnak. You can be so fast the traps get you. But otherwise, the movement boils down to saving your actual real time.

The other big problem is the imbalance of the apathy/mania system. It's so easy to deal with it if you adopt a very simple framework - never go into apathy, use mania proportionally to your healing reserves - congratulations, you've just solved the entire thing. It's mind-numbing.

I appreciate the time mechanic for being the central aspect of 3's storytelling, but time should have continued normally as it does in 2, and jumps should have been more expensive, amalgam harder to get enough of.

The ability to essentially repeat the same day over and over without there being some major downside to doing so makes it likely you're going to do all the work required to progress even before you encounter the next intended barrier.

I've played Pathologic 3 and it's sad how unbalanced the experience is. The game is just too easy, and the design limits (most notably the segmented map and lack of time continuity without using the clock) make it ironically a lot more linear and somehow even more easy than it already is.

Once I figure out how to actually make videos that don't suck I'll start pumping out one video after another and maybe I'll even become a niche VN YouTube commentary channel, however that's not something I ever wished to become I just want to talk about things that interest me without any limits.

I keep waiting for a miracle surge of motivation to push through recording and editing for many projects now, I've got two and a half scripts that are pretty much finished, with a dozen other scripts a weekend away from being complete, but trying to record my voice and have it be acceptable is hard.

I haven't been able to read anything new in 2025. Pretty much just finished Subahibi, but that visual novel has been stuck in my mind for a year now. I'm writing a multifaceted analysis on every single aspect of Subahibi now, even though I still haven't been able to release the other videos...

There's also a lot more space for me to talk about stuff I enjoy like I used to in 2018, all the annoying people aren't here.

I should use this platform more often (I don't even use Twitter anymore) since here there are many mutuals I respect who've moved over a while ago...

I might use this platform more again, mostly because it's a lot smaller with seemingly people who would be more interested in what I do as a hobby, mainly working on the YouTube videos of mine about visual novels, as well as creating my own.

I'll be honest in that I have no idea how to write the beginning of my visual novel. There is too much context to illuminate and I have no time to make it interesting enough to justify itself, and I've been through twelve possible drafts at this point and nothing feels as a good enough sequence.

I so wish these reworks were good, but they never are. With Kanon this completely butchered the aesthetic the original was going for and with AIR it's going to do even more damage because AIR is 80% aesthetics. At least it's going to be on Steam though, there's a plus. People are going to read it.
