β¨ EARLY CAREER AWARD nominations are open! β¨
This award recognizes the formation of new approaches or paradigms within the field of social neuroscience, and/or the development or advancement of research that cuts across multiple fields of neuroscience to understand social cognition & behavior. π
Together with the European Social Club, the Society for Social Neuroscience is organizing a "Social brain networking event" during FENS forum fensforum.org, in Barcelona, Spain. It will be held at La Fuga, Consell de Cent 350, on the 7th of July from 7 pm.
@s4sn.bsky.social
I definitely feel this.
Stopped going to SfN due to increased inaccessibility of rodent research (all tech terms now π)
@s4sn.bsky.social on the other hand- still reaches across the divide, insisting on inclusion of different species perspectives in symposia & organisation ππ

We bring together researchers working across human & non-human animal models to investigate the neural & biological foundations of social cognition & behavior.
Mark your calendars & polish your abstracts! πͺ
We are already looking ahead to our #S4SN2026 Annual Meeting, which will take place in Montreal, Canada, next fall. Please keep an eye out for the exact dates in the coming weeks.
See you in Montreal! π
Finally, we are very excited for our incoming President, @honglab.bsky.social, who will lead the Society in 2026.
Steve will be transitioning into the Past-President role and looks forward to working closely with him.
We were honored to host two world-renowned scientists, Catherine Dulac and Matthew Rushworth, as our Keynote Speakers.
We also presented Early Career Awards to two exceptionally promising investigators, Vikram Gadagkar and Caroline Parkinson.
Thanks to Liz Hammock and Zoe Donaldson for organizing an excellent symposium dedicated to the memory of Larry Young, a co-founder and past President of this Society. This yearβs meeting was, in fact, dedicated to our colleague, mentor, and friend, Larry.

We're looking forward to your feedback and input!
This is such a fun meeting. If you are in social neuroscience - you should come. Heck even if you are not - the science is great in general! And a fun mix of animal and human research!
Next time in Canada!
I had such an incredible time at @s4sn.bsky.social. I took a lot of pictures of Portugal but none at the conference, so here's a video of an otter at the aquarium.
Thanks so much to the organizers for putting together a great conference, and thanks to all the presenters!

Now, after so much science, new impressions, and stimulating discussions, off to the last social event at #S4SN2025! π₯³
After all, 'social neuroscience' includes being social and that can be done at a party πππΊ
In Marco Wittmann's #S4SN2025 talk, we learned that the brain reduces complexity in social situations by tracking the relationships that exist in a social group.
These basic functions are computed in the pregenual anterior cingulate cortex. π§
And Pyungwon Kang shows that observational learning is influenced by social factors, but the neural mechanisms underlying this are still relatively unknown.

Masaki Isoda talked as about important brain areas for monitoring the actions of others.
They identified 3 subtypes of neurons: active during self actions, active during both self and other actions and active during other actions! π€―
