lettering the thumbs goes a long way to a good page composition.

My most strongly held comics opinion (I hesitate to say "opinion," because it's a fact): lettering should be the first finished thing done, not the last. Done after (or along with) roughs and finalized before pencils. Pencils and inking should be done AROUND the lettering.

maximalist is probably the wrong term here, but I think you get what I mean.

it burdens the page and clutters the art.

(superhero books also have a big problem in a lack of consisently good action art, but honestly these aren't separate problems. There are great action artists in the west but their presence on action books isn't the norm that it should be.)

there's a place for maximalist writing in comics, even super hero books. More of it should be in narration than popping out of a web slinger's mouth. it gets to the point of the character delivering a monologue in half a second while fighting a mutant hippopotamus in down town Chicago.

even something relatively new like John Wick quickly got driven into the ground with sequals and spin offs.

(though its kind of incredible there were only two predator films before the 2000s, compared to something like Rambo or Rocky that also got sludged into pop culture mush fairly quickly)

the anime movie by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (the Ninja Scroll/Vampire Hunter D guy) was pretty good.

Tuatha by Gavin Fullerton is a nice quick read. As the name implies, its deep in Irish mythology but doesn't burden the reader with over explanation and allows strong visuals to tell the story.

probably my strongest comic book opinion is most super hero books could stand to cut down their dialogue by about half.

The new Deathstalker was great. Both excessively gorey and lovingly stupid. Did the difficult thing of being tongue in cheek without being smug. Could have used some gratuitous sex to really nail the sleazy 80s vibe but it was all good either way.

irrespective to the quality of the film, the fact audiences are showing up for a Predator movie starring the Predator without (and all respect to Elle Fanning here) a superstar name shows people are way more open to an offbeat premise than most recieved wisdom claims.

I don't think old films are inherently better than new film but I do think in general old garbage is better than new garbage.

It's been brought to our attention Globalcomix has a stance on AI that neither I or @illuminatedcomics.bsky.social can tolerate. As such we've decided to pull our work from their website. What this means for reading 'the Star Tide Shores' online, right now I don't know but I'll think of something.

We aren't telling anyone else what to do, we aren't judging anyone for being where they feel they need to be. We're making a choice on our work.

What small careers we've both managed to build are mostly inconsequential in this mire of corporate mush, but we have our principles.

whoever wrote the screenplay really needs to stop and reconsider any jokes they think about putting into their work though. its ok, not everything needs to be funny to still be entertaining.

Predator Badlands wasn't brilliant cinema but it was a pretty fun scifi action movie with some moments of creativity.

Del Toro is an excellent film maker but he can be maddeningly unsubtle at times.

Kevin Costner at one time being the biggest movie star in the world still feels like an elaborate prank that went too far.
