Silverwolf elbow-smashed her window, and leaned up through it, firing more steadily back at Rieka, her inhuman strength the only thing keeping her in the car as the driver had to swerve another turn on the winding road.

The song is the inspiration for WIP#1. I wrote it while thinking about the story. Then ignored both for years. I wrote the book, then I finished the song (which is in the comments, if interested)

When I was a toddler I learned that the world was full of awful things that hurt me from time to time and no one would protect me from them. My complaints wouldn't be believed, or they would be treated like they weren't a big deal. Sometimes I'd even be made fun of for them. If I really complained hard, people would treat me like I was the problem.

The things that people told me to calm me down made me think the awful things bothered everyone, but everyone else just kind of ignored them because they were necessary parts of life. It wasn't until later that I learned I was wrong. A teacher taught me that I sense the world differently from other people and those things really don't bother most people.

There were two really good options for "full", but since yesterday was a strongly autobiographical snippet I thought I'd continue the trend. Just substitute "A teacher taught me" with "I learned from the Internet in my forties" for the real story.

Bedlam charged full-on into the tree, smashing his horns into the brittle trunk. The male bandit was unable to prepare for the impact and lost his footing during his descent, crashing down into the mossy ground below. Bedlam grabbed him by a leg, lifting him effortlessly into the air, and taking a close look at his face.
โ€œGeoffrey Clemmens, a coward barely worth the time,โ€ Bedlam snarled before throwing the bandit back to the ground.
โ€œWe have the coin, spare me and Iโ€™ll deliver our caches!โ€ Geoffery pleaded as he struggled to stand, his other leg having suffered a similar trauma before our encounter.
โ€œNo,โ€ Bedlam replied as he placed one hand on Geofferyโ€™s head, lifting him back up before immediately plunging a fist into his chest with the other. I could hear the breaking of ribs so clearly as Bedlamโ€™s devastating blow sank into the banditโ€™s torso. A second, albeit unnecessary, strike to the same place brought a swift end to life. He dropped the corpse and looked above to the canopy of the tree, โ€œYou.โ€

Also, on that note, the climates in each cavern can vary alone with how much vein is in the open. Some can be cooler, some can be nearly inhospitable saunas. I have one scene in a cavern with giant spirals of veins reaching into a boiling ocean for one cavern. Sweaty place.

Also, yes, some caverns will have more of an abundance, since the amount of vein 'peeking out' of the cavern walls varies from cavern to cavern, and also the tunnels. Heck, sometimes Veins go extinct as well, just go black and wither away like a banana.

Yeah, it depends on each separate Cavern State's type of governance plus some regulation by the Conclave (agreed on by said states). Think of it like gold and silver that's mined and then turned into coinage.

Background

I love talking about my stories, and have had a lot of fun participating in writing prompts here. I absolutely love it when people like my posts, reply with thoughtful comments and especially when they remember something about my story I posted earlier. But I've been feeling bad lately because I feel I haven't been doing the same for others. Part of why I hosted #ConlangNovember last month was to give back to this amazing writing community!

I've been participating in writing prompts, but so far haven't really been reading other people's posts, and I want to change that. The issue is that BlueSky lends itself to short posts on random topics, without enough context for me to follow. And I've noticed that I need that context in order to truly understand your posts and become invested in your stories. If I had it, I think I'd be able to enjoy your little posts so much more and be able to engage with your stories and give you more thoughtful comments.

So that's what this is about. Give me all the context for your stories, all in one place! That'll help me figure out which ones happen to match my particular tastes, that I think I'll enjoy, so I can pick however many I have time and spoons for and learn the fundamentals, so I can get invested in them and give them all the love they deserve!

Apologies to those of you who participate whose stories I don't end up engaging more with after this. I'm only human, have finite time, and being social is taxing for me. But I'm hoping others (possibly who have the same trouble I have of needing context to get invested) find your stories through this and give them love!

Schedule

December 14: WEEK 1: The Story

Introduce yourself and your story! Blurb, genres, target audience, status, selling points, whatever you want! This can be as long or as short as you want.

December 21: WEEK 2: The World

Introduce the world your story is set in! Countries, magic system/tech level, wildlife, whatever you've got! What's speculative about it? Is there anything that just works totally different from our world? Try to go in as much detail as you can and make sure to cover anything that's necessary to understand your story/your typical posts about it! There is no maximum length; yap all you want!

December 28: WEEK 3: The Characters

Introduce your main cast! Protagonists, antagonists and important side characters. Whoever frequently comes up in your posts. Give us their name, pronouns, species (if nonhuman), personality, goals, and anything else you think is relevant. Character art, if you've got it.

January 4: WEEK 4: The Plot

Give us the detailed synopsis! Aim for a minimum of 300 words. No need to get into spoilers, but I'm looking for more than just a blurb. This is not just selling your story; I'm hoping to get enough detail that if you post a snippet from your story that references plot events, I can hazard a guess as to what point in the story it's from.

January 11: WEEK 5: Wrap Up

Your choice what to post for this. Feedback, promo, a snippet, shoutouts. Anything goes!

Rules

(read carefully)

1. This is targeted at writers of speculative fiction stories (including science fiction and fantasy) that you post about here on BlueSky relatively regularly, but if this doesn't apply to you, you can still participate.

2. WIPs and published works, books, comics, TTRPGs and screenplays, all valid!

3. Read the schedule ahead of time and make sure you're up for it. For Weeks 2 to 4, I'm really looking for the details, not just a few words. I've given a week between prompts to give you time to prepare your responses, so make sure to check out what's coming up. If that's not enough, you can always post late.

4. Any images you post should include ALT text. Some of the questions are designed so the answers won't fit in a single post, and I recommend posting your answers as screenshots with ALT text. Note that there is a 2000 character cap on ALT text, so take that into account when you take your screenshots.

5. Include the hashtag #DetailedSFFIntros in your post for each week. MOREOVER, especially if you're posting about multiple stories, ensure your submissions for a single story can all easily be found together. Here are two proposed ways of accomplishing that:

A) Keep posts on a single story within a single thread. So your post for Week 2 would be a reply to your post for Week 1, your post for Week 3 would be a reply to your post from Week 2, etc. Make sure to @ me so I get notified.

B) Create a hashtag for each story you wish to discuss. An example format would be #[author's name/username]-[title]-DSFFI. Other formats are allowed, but try to ensure it won't collide with anything else. If you're discussing multiple stories set in the same world, this option is recommended, since you can tag your answer for Week 2 (The World) with the hashtag for all relevant stories and avoid having to duplicate post it in multiple threads.
