Child with measles dies in Alder Hey as officials fear outbreak The child, who has not been formerly identified, is only the second to have died due to measles in the UK in the past decade

Horrific, horrific news from Alder Hey in Liverpool.

And I’m already seeing anti-vax nonsense in response to this tragic news on social media. We are living in such dangerous times.

At energy security talks, US pushes gas and derides renewables The US envoy to the IEA's energy security summit pushed gas and criticised renewables, arguing that they cause power cuts

The US rep to the IEA said that "pursuing offshore wind power would make countries reliant on China." It's instructive to explore this sort of claim, in particular for what it reveals about those claiming it. Two points:🧡

This. Spain has the good fortune to have vast wind and solar resources and the good sense to invest enthusiastically in them. It's on track to being Europe's green energy superpower.

Surveys are important. But increasingly, statistics offices are looking to new digital systems to provide data, and not relying on surveys. If they get it right, this will mean more timely, comprehensive, and cheaper data. What's not to like? Partners like the World Bank should be supporting this.
