This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
Heute wurde der Klimabericht #AAR2 - der Zweite Österreichische Sachstandsbericht zum Klimawandel - veröffentlicht!

How much hydrogen should Europe produce by 2040? Our analysis suggests that targeting around 25 Mt of hydrogen in 2040 enables a 90% emissions reduction—across a wide range of plausible future scenarios. 1/n

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.
No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

"More Wind, Falling Efficiency: The Driving Factors of German Onshore Wind Power Generation". (doi.org/10.1002/we.7...). We find that wind generation in Germany in the last 2 decades has primarily grown due to larger rotors, and due to more turbines. 1/n

Nice, short piece arguing that stranded assets are about much more than just fossil fuel reserves -- here, for example, commercial property. And if investors hope promised policies will not be carried through, they are taking on a lot of risk.

26.09.2024 00:28 — 👍 7 🔁 5 💬 1 📌 0By doing so, we could determine socially optimal energy systems, accounting for economic, social and environmental factors instead of merely minimizing private costs. 🎉
15.09.2024 11:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0However, we know they aren’t. One market imperfection is the negative externalities caused by wind turbines, for example, their impacts on surrounding areas. If we could quantify these costs, we could internalize them in our models, much like we do with carbon pricing.
15.09.2024 11:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The paper offers a new way forward, better compatible with the economic theory underpinning our models. The ultimate objective is improving social welfare, but our models typically minimize system costs. This only works if all markets are perfectly competitive.

To modelers, the paper is relevant due to its theoretical framework. Our models often produce numbers that we know are difficult to implement. That’s why we use methods like Modelling to Generate Alternatives (MGA) or assess „feasible potentials“.
15.09.2024 11:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0While these results on the local social cost of wind turbines are interesting, the underlying framework should also be of interest to energy system modelers and anyone working on assessing renewable potentials.

If you're interested in the systemic benefits of wind power in Austria, have a look at this paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
The social cost-supply curve of wind power in Lower Austria plotting the expected amount of annual electricity generation against the estimated social cost.
While the local social cost are high, they increase only moderately as wind turbines are added to the currently installed capacity. Note that the local social costs are not entirely external costs but include location-dependent private costs.
