Winter hits fast around these parts.

I could not. It is chaos, and I am happy. This feels like a GameCube game and I mean that in the best way possible.

07.11.2025 04:43 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Just to clarify, Jim himself refers to the word "content", as well as the term "content creator," as an easily identifiable description. An industry term.
What I meant was that it shouldn't be the ONLY word you use to describe what you do. You owe yourself more than a description like that.
To me, the word "content" is meaningless when describing art. It should describe the "content" WITHIN a body of work, but should absolutely NEVER be a catch-all for what you make.
What you make should always be "yours," and not a product of chasing those numbers. Jim is proof that it works out.
Finally got to see the talk @caddicarus.bsky.social gave in Manchester. A deconstruction of the word "content" (which I hate), and incredibly inspiring for anyone that wants to create, with him bringing it back to YouTube's original slogan: "Broadcast Yourself."

06.11.2025 21:09 โ ๐ 675 ๐ 143 ๐ฌ 82 ๐ 425That's about it from me. Some other stuff I learned:
- Prime 2's development, though truncated, was actually more relaxed and structured than Prime 1! Not nearly as stressful despite the crunch.
- Retro was left without power due to ice storms during MP Remastered. Paired with the pandemic... Jeez
Here we go. The bounty hunter concept art. I'm just gonna include my favourites. Love how deeply soaked the art is in their individual identities through colour and aura.

06.11.2025 02:53 โ ๐ 16 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Holy shit this Ing concept art rocks. The Ing always struck me as some of the more mindlessly violent and frankly terrifying enemies in Metroid, and this art sells that.
06.11.2025 02:51 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Apparently he also wrote over 50% of the scan visor messages himself when translating them into Japanese. He had a far larger role in this game than I ever knew.
06.11.2025 02:44 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0He also apologized for letting Metroid Prime 2 be as difficult as it was. Dude, I promise it just makes that game all the more unique. I love it. I get it though, it's a tough balance to strike.
He also says his "gaming skills might have inadvertently improved" as the project progressed. lol.
Kensuke Tanabe recounts in this book that the light/dark world concept was HIS idea for Link to the Past, and goes on to say that when Retro used it in Prime 2, it was utilized BETTER, which is a huge honor to be bestowed by someone who invented it for one of the most important Zelda games.
06.11.2025 02:38 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0This thing looks more like an early concept for Half-Life 2 than it does Metroid, but I love it.

06.11.2025 02:30 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0The fact that this is a conscious, intelligent life form with feelings and thoughts really comes through in the art. The Phazon, cybernetic and Metroid enhancements are harrowing.
06.11.2025 02:27 โ ๐ 13 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Kensuke Tanabe mentions that enemies are designed around their functionality, a philosophy conveyed by Miyamoto during development, and I've always subconsciously clocked that in his games. Goombas are clearly meant to be jumped on, while a Koopa's shell can be used as a weapon. Zelda, too.
06.11.2025 02:24 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have begun reading Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective. This Phazon Suit design is an INCREDIBLE work of science fiction. It looks so fucking vile and corrupt, just as you'd expect out of a Phazon Suit. Certainly a bit much for the game's art direction, but I love it.
06.11.2025 02:13 โ ๐ 91 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 0Funnily enough, I liked the game BECAUSE of the limitations imposed on you. Tears of the Kingdom definitely feels way more open and it's an incredible achievement, but I think there's something to be said about having too much freedom. So it was interesting having to actually earn your echoes.
