My 3 books. The 3rd will be out in early March! The 4th (on Irving Rapper) is in progress. Note: There is a foreword in the Furie book, by Piers Handling (then head of TIFF). Don't know why the publisher didn't note this on the cover back then, but it's there. 12 feature-length films and 3 books.
January 8 not 5!
My documentary NOW, IRVING RAPPER recently added Illeana Douglas and Foster Hirsch, to a “cast” that includes Maltin, Jaglom, Alan K. Rode, WB’s George Feltenstein, David Del Valle, Nathaniel Thompson, and others.
Joe Dante says, “Read Daniel Kremer’s Adventures in Auteurism…and heed my foreword!” Do as he bids!
My new book is available for purchase. Foreword by Joe Dante, Afterword by Daniel Waters.
Out next week on Blu-ray internationally, my documentary CRUEL, USUAL, NECESSARY: THE PASSION OF SILVIO NARIZZANO. viavision.com.au/shop/blue-19...
Personally, I’m partial to Delmer Daves’s YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE (1964)
I’m everywhere, EVERYWHERE, I tell ya!
10th Anniversary edition of my feature film drama RAISE YOUR KIDS ON SELTZER (2015) is available to view on Vimeo. A few noteworthy upgrades. A nip here, a tuck there, plus a new color grade. 3-4 minutes shorter. Give it a shot and review it on Letterboxd! vimeo.com/1090365976
Check out The Leather Boys, Ipcress File, Boys in Company C (Kubrick’s FMJ inspiration), Entity (a Scorsese fav), Sheila Levine is Dead…, The Boys (1962), During One Night. Hit! is quite good. I’ve called it Rio Bravo meets French Connection.
I’m guessing yes. Eye roll.
I recently created a video essay on John Guillermin for the Blu ray of Bridge at Remagen. Entered into it knowing he had a small army of critical defenders but still skeptical. Exited convinced there was more to him. Rapture (1965) is a masterpiece. Blue Max (1966) is his testament film.
In July, Imprint Films is releasing my feature-length documentary CRUEL, USUAL, NECESSARY: THE PASSION OF SILVIO NARIZZANO on Blu-Ray as part of a hardbox with Blue (1968) and Fade-In (1968/73). Preorder at viavision.com.au/shop/blue-19...
I’ll challenge you here. What have you seen? Kubrick is acknowledged to have stolen from him. Leone prized his Appaloosa above all American westerns. Joe Dante said he thought he was one of directors he thought was “reinventing cinema.” I think you’re misinformed, honestly.
Furie is not a hack. He’s one of the best overlooked filmmakers, with a number of masterpieces to his name. The Leather Boys, Ipcress, Boys in Company C, The Entity, all with identifiable style and thematic preoccupation. There’s a tribute box set with tributes by a very impressive roster of names.
I have a new piece running on Criterion, on Joan Micklin Silver. My first piece for The Criterion Collection, a milestone! The piece also relates the wild story of how Joan and I met.

Visited director Irving Rapper’s grave today, placed a rock on the headstone, and recited a Jewish remembrance prayer. Irving is buried next to his sister Hannah in Queens. The rock was picked from near his old home in Hollywood and transported cross-country for the occasion.
I would use Bluesky more if it weren’t for the stupid character limit.
My titles as director, as they appear on MUBI.
11 features and counting – I’ve had a funky little film career so far
Sidney J. Furie had been ignored for too long, and I felt it my duty to set the record straight and give him his due. I wrote the first book on his life and career, and produced this tribute box set from Imprint. Who’s good for one classic? This guy’s been good for a number of them!
Catch my epic feature film OVERWHELM THE SKY (2019) via Kino Lorber, on multiple platforms and on physical media (with extras) – we originally screened this in roadshow fashion with overture, intermission, and printed souvenir programs!
My essay documentary is available to watch for free on Trailers from Hell. trailersfromhell.com/zabriskie-za...
