Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people.
More coming soon.

Nurses say they were blindsided by Toronto police plan to end mental health crisis teams
Those involved in mobile crisis intervention teams told the Star they were not consulted about the possible program end in 2026.
Co-responder teams - pairing cops with health workers/civilians - are far from perfect. But until you can aggressively divert mental illness calls away from police, they play a vital role. Toronto may be ending its iteration. www.thestar.com/news/gta/nur...

The rationale behind the Canada-U.S. Safe Third Country Agreement is that asylum-seekers should apply for refugee status in the first "safe" country they arrive in. Safety debate aside, the U.S. is no longer accepting asylum claims - should Canada keep sending hundreds of people a month to the U.S.?

A year after al-Assadโs fall, celebration turns to fear and division
Last Decemberโs elation in Damascus has vanished as religious minorities are scared to speak out against Ahmed al-Sharaaโs new regime
One year after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, many Syrians are again living in fear.
Where the Sunni majority bore the brunt of the Assad regime's crimes, now it's the country's minorities who are being persecuted.
Can the country unite? Or will sectarian divisions tear it apart?

If there's anything we've learned it's that mental health and addiction are a one-time problem that's easily solved.

Bill | Legislative Assembly of BC
I missed the part of BC's involuntary care bill that would remove the bit of the Mental Health Act deeming people hospitalized against their will to have consented to treatment. Advocates have been fighting that for years. www.leg.bc.ca/parliamentar...

Those are my winter mitts! Took em to Saskatoon for a few days, wore em in TO, and they served me well. But can you easily reach brakes and gear-shifters with them?

Black-and-neon Pearl Izumi lobster claw.
I really like these but they won't do the trick 10-15 degrees below where we're at now.

I am not a winter cyclist any more. I do not plan to bike through snow and sleet. But I'm not ready to call it a season. What lobster claws are people using for sub-zero temps?

For the purposes of assisted death, people whose deaths aren't deemed imminent but who are suffering from a physical condition causing them grievous and irremediable suffering are on a secondary track involving additional assessments and a waiting period.

Arguably, yes! But not in the eyes of Parliament or the Supreme Court. Fuzzy demarcation at best.

Trump Pauses All Asylum Applications and Halts Visas for Afghans
NEW: The New York Times got a State Dept. cable telling diplomats to destroy visas that had been approved and printed to give to Afghans. And diplomats are told to do scheduled interviews but not grant visas. US shuts all legal entry routes for Afghans. Our story: www.nytimes.com/2025/11/28/u...
