Ah, well at that side of things I can see where you are coming from for sure. I mean, I know I wasn't entirely comfortable with it at the start -- however, I don't remember freaking out about having to mask.

It's an interesting theory, and giving people the benefit of the doubt but in reality I think most who were against masking were NOT neurodivergent but actually neurotypical and disliked the idea of having to succumb to any accommodation that benefited the general public.
