Photograph of a sculpture against a grey backdrop. The sculpture is a smirking surly goblin dude with big ears and a pointy nose. He's green with blue hair-thingies on his head and shoulders. He's smiling at you with golden eyes and pointy white fangs. In his hand he holds a perfect purple and blue plum.

"The Goblin Market" is a magical group show,
opening tomorrow at Haven Gallery!

My surly merchant sells the finest plums down by the river ~ but think carefully before you make a deal with him...

Cosclay with watercolor and acrylic. #fantasyart #goblin

Two queens stand before the sunset YA book cover featuring a girl with a candle burning away a circle of leaves Several TVs stacked on top of each other in a dark room show a staticky creature pressing up against the inside A dark-skinned man crouches over the top of a train, magic in his hands

I'm wide open for work right now, if anyone's looking! I have lots of experience in gaming (card/ttrpg) spaces and I'm trying to work my way into book covers. More in my portfolio at kimsokol.com, signal boosts appreciated!

The card printings change and it seems like they are getting more and more resistant to water based markers. I'm switching to just avoid any problems and just accepting there is going to be a drying time.

Tip for MagicCon attendees getting signatures. More of us artists have to switch to oil based pens so get something like this to put your cards in so they can dry while you walk to the next artist.

9"x12" paint marker and acrylic paint on board. Someone out there commissioned a food token sketch at an SCG and I decided to do another take on it.

This is still baffling me. The RPG customer base would know the artwork has been run through AI and a large portion would likely be ticked off! The homogenizing of the artwork at the cost of money and customer satisfaction. I do not get it. I do not see the upside for artist, publisher, or customer.

If you ever see my work but it's been glossed up by some AI, I promise you, that was not my doing. My old artwork is what it is and that's me. I'm not letting some AI ghoul climb into my skin and pretend it's me.

Groan...an old client of mine (not WotC) wants to feed my art into AI for a new edition and pay me. I said no. Looks like some of the other artists agreed to it. After burning with red hot rage for a minute, I'm now just so disappointed in everyone and having to battle this crap all the time.

Fun note on this article, this company uses comfyUI, which boasts a collection of some of the most unethical and exploitative GenAi models.

This whole deal is Netflix normalizing the exploitation of the creative workers—whose works GenAi companies stole to train their models— they hope to replace.

The Good: lost 25lbs in past 30 days. The Bad: because I could barely eat.
Had surgery today to get back to normal. Laid up and home brewing some DH adversaries.

That sounds cool. It's inspired by Erin Hunter's Survivors book where the dogs tell each other that the wind is the spirits of dogs chasing deer.

Yep and some work that flopped online will do great at events and others that spread well on the internet will fail at events. In the moment though it can be hard to remember when nobody reacts to a piece.

I believe it! I know I always read the newsletters from art friends. I should probably use mine.

17 likes no retweets. That's how the original sharing of this piece on X did years ago. Meanwhile this is my first or second most financially successful piece I've ever done. I found it's a good reminder that those social numbers don't mean much and to just keep making.

Returning to events here in 2026 after a break. Might add two more. I'll be at GenCon but as an attendee with my son so maybe you'll see me at an RPG session! I think a lot of work is releasing this year.

Thanks! I know I didn't make any and I don't remember the world guide even having concept art of the sword alone. Just the stone with all the swords in it and I'm not allowed to share that sort of thing.
