this is pretty much my process, too. ideas have to kick around in my head a long time before the words finally come. I envy writers who can just sit at their writing desks & summon the words on command.

be gentle w/ yourself. some days all we can do is survive. 💙 I know that frustration all too well...when life interferes w/ writing. It's why I had to write both my books on my cell in my car in a grocery store parking lot after work. Even doing that is a struggle right now.

Billie Eilish may star in Sarah Polley's film adaptation of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar. Finally a film being made just for my tastes.

Look at this handsome fellow I just ran into at Trinity, Cambridge. He is a Harris's hawk and his name is Fagan. His job is to shoo pigeons.

81°F & tornado watch here now. Overnight forecast 36°F & snow flurries. Climate change is crazier than I am.

good morning, just thinking about how so much of the literary world is built on free work and so many people/institutions profit from the unpaid labor of others

Lago de Los Tres. A glossy, turquoise blue alpine lake surrounded by snow-draped jagged gray mountains. View of a broad face of a snow and ice covered mountain foregrounded by southern beech forest, on the way to Mirador del Torre. View of a verdant valley in Patagonia, a winding river, forest, and trees surrounded by hills and mountains. A vast strikingly blue lake behind which towers a snowy mountain range, foregrounded by the desert-like Steppe, sandy with sparse shrubs.

Patagonian landscapes. Exploring the regions around and inbetween El Calafate and El Chaltén, Argentina. Truly spectacular.

was planning to see The Bride!, because I love the original Bride of Frankenstein character & Jesse Buckley, but I read that it has an explicit sexual assault scene. :/ So that's 2 Jesse Buckley movies in a row I couldn't see for personal, emotional reasons. I hope she picks a comedy next time.

still enjoying Best Medicine, the U.S. remake of Doc Martin. Martin Clunes, the original Doc Martin, had a cameo this week.

A copy of the book photographed on a wooden floor. The cover of Backyard Alchemy features an old salvaged tin with a rollback lid. For herring? Let’s say herring.

Friendos at AWP and friendos not at AWP, do not miss this book by @nematode.bsky.social ! Just got my blurber copy in the mail yesterday and it’s a beaut!

one of the neat things about submitting to the fancier lit mags is that by the time they send you a rejection all the cells in your body have been replaced with newer cells, they're not rejecting you but as past version of yourself, how quaint

Posting about something other than The Big Event Of The Day does not mean you are unaware or unconcerned or unconsumed. It often means you are striving to remain stable and sane.

A surface of brown leaves with fresh green leaves and a little flower stalk poking out. The flower is a deep pink. The sky and a house are blurry in the background A brown, leaf covered lawn. Sticking out are a bunch of green leaves and a lone flower with a yellow bud

Hellebore. Daffodil.
