I've always felt insane for not enjoying ranked in fighting games mostly in part because I am a sweaty player and I don't have "Ranked Anxiety" or any fear of getting my ass whooped. It just encourages way less fun play styles and never gives you enough knowledge to grow.

Yeah, you got the point of the essay just fine. I prefer to see fighting games that are made to deliver an excellent experience for the people who want to work for them than I would fighting games who make the experience worse in order to serve the players that do not.
it's been a long time since the last new VF release and i'm sure they've got something good to try and win the people over, but if the worst thing that happens is that VF6 makes VF fans happy and becomes a niche Discord fighter, I think that'd be a pretty good outcome.
