I was at synagogue last night for a Hanukkah event. Unlike 11 people in Australia, I was not murdered because of it.This is what Jews all over the world have to worry about every time we go to synagogue. For any reason, not just for Hanukkah.

"This murder of Jews wouldn't have occurred if those Jews way over there hadn't done something to deserve it" is Nazi talk and you need to automatically report and block anyone who says it. Yes, even the cool leftists.

US voters: Thank you! I wasn't sure I wanted to go back to the US after my trip ends, but now I have to so that I can celebrate all the great election results!

This is why I carry a copy of my passport, passport card, and Global Entry card. Not that it would likely do much for me even though I have a 'White/Jewish' last name' because I still have a 'latin' first and middle name.

The right to read belongs to all of us, but rights only survive when we defend them. ALA is standing with library workers, parents, and readers to push back against censorship. You can donate to support our work at ilovelibraries.org/1984.

BANNED BOOKS WEEK Oct. 5-11, 2025. Censorship is so 1984 - Read for Your Rights. ala.org/bbooks. American Library Association

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.

Today begins Banned Books Week! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year! Reading is one of the most subversive things you can do, especially if you're reading banned books. And who doesn't want to be subversive? Check out the top banned books of 2024 at www.ala.org/bbooks/banned

I didn't get to have a wild celebration this week b/c my birthday fell on Yom Kippur, so tomorrow I'm taking a teenager to see the release party of Taylor Swift's new album and we're going to eat the free birthday popcorn that AMC gave me. I think that might be enough wild celebrating for me.πŸŽ‰

You would have to check on the website to see who is working on what department. Keep in mind, though, that many positions are not yet filled, so there may not be a name listed for a particular department.

As for who can be on the concom, anyone who wants to can volunteer. That's not to say that BIPOC or other folks must volunteer or not get consideration-it's to say that we can choose to volunteer if so inclined. Regardless of volunteering status, I think the con is making a sincere attempt.

When someone pointed out your post to me, I contacted the con and they were already working on fixing it. Too many cons double down on their mistakes or take forever to fix things, and I was glad that this con immediately took responsibility. That's the type of response I expect from these folks.

First, even though I know some folks on the concom, I am not on concom and am not speaking for anyone but myself. So, yeah, unconscious bias is definitely a thing. Not paying attention is also a thing-I knew there were good people on the concom and never thought to even look at the website.

I get it and want to respond, but I'm about to get on a work call. Will respond after that. Thanks.

Statement from LAcon V Chair – LAcon V

LA Worldcon has apologized and taken action. I know the convention was already working on being inclusive and having Safer Spaces, Spanish-language programming, and other things, so I hope folks will understand that sometimes people make mistakes. Full disclosure-I know folks from the convention
