Today's Sunday Screening was a double-feature: #TheRunningMan! I loved the excoriating satire of neoliberalism in the OG. Old ladies screaming for murder, Flight of the Valkyries belting serial murder/SA Cops. Could do without the ironic misogyny. Remake was also good. #filmsky

I went to the Comic-Con Museum today and saw exhibits honoring cosplay and luchadores! I was hit w recoil when I read the name on one of the cosplays and realized that I personally knew the creator from a film set we worked on ages ago!

For this week's Sunday Screening, we sat down for Wes Anderson's latest, #ThePhoenicianScheme! It's more classic Wes Anderson, so it was a good time, if not quite The French Dispatch or The Royal Tenenbaums. Speaking of, Zsa Zsa might be a worse guy, but is still a better father than Royal. #filmsky

" I didn't know this film was actually scary? Most films aren't. Scott Derrickson really put in the work on this one- and you KNOW he started this project by saying "I want to shoot some very artistic snuff films." I was really impressed by some of the shots in this one, especially in the snuff films, themselves, and of the projector. Some less so, like Hawke doing ballet with ghost children around the house- but I feel that failure may have originated from the writing room floor and not from behind the camera. Perhaps most surprising, to me, was the soundtrack from Christopher Young. I felt that the atmospheric builds in this score really gave the film a unique character when a lot of horror films just kind of phone it in with the staples. Unsurprising to learn that he also handled the score on David Prior's "The Empty Man," which also had a phenomenally unnerving soundtrack. Really great stuff."

I watched Scott Derrickson's #Sinister with my mom, tonight! I picked it out bc I thought it was going to be kinda mid horror schlock, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn it is not only scary (a difficult feat in the medium) but also really unique! I see a rewatch in my future #filmsky
