If only. Sadly, streaming has so flattened temporal distance that the Beatles are even more omnipresent.

So one could bet along with the dart throwing as the lines move in real time.

I’m surprised sportsbook’s acquisitions of RSNs hasn’t been a bigger part of the conversation about problem gambling. “FanDuel Sports Network” (which broadcasts Bucks games) is on at the Thai restaurant I’m eating lunch at, and it is currently broadcasting a darts competition w/ live lines.

It’s not clear to me what interpretive problems Guillermo del Toro thought he was solving with his (not very good) adaptation of Frankenstein. The creature quoting P.B. Shelley’s “Ozymandias” was pretty sick though.

Maryland was favored over Rutgers in this game and Rutgers is playing its most dominant game of the season

Little did I know that a showdown between 3-4 Rutgers and 2-5 Purdue was what I needed to revive my spirits

I think I’ve read enough “I’m not worried about my students using AI” think pieces written by faculty at Ivies for my lifetime. The disconnect from what the reality is in most humanities classrooms is stunning.

I didn’t have a guest appearance of a Wright of Derby painting or Isaac Newton name drop in Alien Earth on my Alien franchise bingo card

Meta cleared to fight ‘celeb-bait’ ads with facial recognition in South Korea | Biometric Update Meta gets a green light from South Korean regulators to introduce a facial recognition service that will block ads and accounts impersonating celebrities.

Meta never found a problem facial recognition couldn’t solve…

I just asked my (non-German speaking) partner if she had any wool clothes to wash, unintentionally, in German. I guess using Duolingo to freshen up my German is working

Washington Wizards Reminded That Bottled Water In Hotel Room Isn’t Free ORLANDO, FL—Emphasizing that he absolutely would not tolerate another away game that ended with over $200 in room charges, Washington Wizards coach Brian Keefe reportedly reminded his team Sunday that the bottled water in their hotel wasn’t free. “I know they don’t have a price tag on them, but any water bottles in or around the mini […]

I like that @dannyheifetz.bsky.social from the Ringer Fantasy Football show had a better political analysis of Kendrick’s halftime show than the New York Times

Which is to say this entire discourse is meant to obscure how surveillance technologies work and how ubiquitous they have become in public life

Could Facial Recognition Help Find Man Sought in C.E.O.’s Killing? Experts disagreed on whether running surveillance camera images released by the police through a facial recognition system would produce a reliable lead.

What an absolutely strange time to be a scholar of surveillance. *Of course* facial recognition was used… how else would we possibly have the collection of images gathered of Mangione?

I liked the Yacht Rock documentary much more than expected. It explores the material conditions necessary for a recognizable artistic movement to emerge (and it makes a fine companion to Denny Tedesco’s Wrecking Crew! doc)
