I think Lisa fangames show this pretty well, as in getting a party member killed by a joy mutant is the most annoying shit ever

I had to restart the Pink slime fight like 5 times cuz it kept perma killing my team

You can still have permanent debuffs, but I think they are way more interesting as choices in the main story rather than some "oops the enemy did this attack so now you are slow as shit forever"

On the other side of things, one way to make an rpg game NOT fun is to have enemies that just have attacks that can give you a permanent debuff

Idc if it's to make the game harder, it just makes me wanna restart the fight until I beat it without the permanent debuff

Byakuren Hijiri of Touhou project holds up her arm blocking a punch from Yorigami Joon also of Touhou Project as the two engage in a spar. Byakuren has a more composed and content expression with an arm behind her back while Joon is grinning in excitement throwing her all into a punch. Byakuren wears a sports top evocative of her normal robes having crossed wrappings connecting two sides a vest over a white under top. She has arm wrappings that are far more organized, also styled to match her usual outfits arm ribbons.
