Thrilled to see the #drDeaf article I published with @mdemeulder.bsky.social @annelieskusters.bsky.social is now the fourth most read article in the journal after one day of publication! Join the crowd and read the open access article here: academic.oup.com/jdsde/advanc...
We had our first Professor Deaf #drDeaf workshop with 22 Deaf mid/senior career academics having a dialogue across sessions on career stages, academic administration, running research centers, mentoring and more.
The events run parallel and take place in Ål, Norway from 7-12 December 2025.
There will be joint lectures and activities between the two events, including our now infamous winter afternoon sauna and ice-bathing wellness activity!
(We pre-cut the hole in the ice, no worries! 🤣)

We have a Professor Deaf Workshop this October and a #drDeaf Winter Writing Retreat in December. Are there enough people considering or in PhD programs who would be interested in a PhD workshop?
#drDeaf had its 7th writing retreat (and 14th event overall) with participants from around Europe, US, Singapore, and Australia. Evaluation comments: energized, motivated, enthusiastic, sharing, refreshed. Join us at our other 2025 events!

"Imperfect sounds: Cochlear implants give deaf kids unprecedented access to sound. But insisting they avoid using sign language may be risky."
Concerned #DAC2025 has interpreters on their website. Deaf Academic Conferences are interpreter-free spaces (aside from DeafBlind interpreters) that prioritize *direct* communication in IS.
In their bid, Houston claimed to support the DAC ethos. @bevjbuchanan.bsky.social can you clarify?
The core Dr Deaf team (@drjosephmurray.bsky.social and @annelieskusters.bsky.social ) are working on an academic paper about Dr Deaf. As part of this work, we are interviewing former participants and teachers about their experiences with Dr Deaf.
DAC is an amazing conference.
I can't make it in person this year, but those of you who can go, should!

I love this quote: " Your life's project should be longer and larger than your lifespan."
What are you doing today, or this year, that will outlive you?
#DeafStrong #HumanRights #NothingWithoutUs
Oh and hey, these are were all talks by deaf academics - they were all very different, but all breaking new ground. Just like the great poster on grammatical description by Péter Romanek - proposing deaf community-led/collaborative reference grammar writing. I wish I was starting my career again.
Obviously ⬆️ sarcastic, but unfortunately true.
Supporting @linasigns.bsky.social call for a revival of #NoTalkTISLR.
Good luck and good conferencing to those of you at #TISLR15!
Or at all! As a hearing supervisor, do mentor new hearing scholars that it’s perfectly fine to speak your presentation on sign language linguistics at the field’s major conferences. #audistjerks #TISLR15
In honor of #TISLR15 here’s a new #audistjerks post! Sign language linguist? Do pass over that deaf applicant to your PhD stipend in favor of a hearing new signer There’s always a reason a deaf person isn’t qualified 🤡and a hearing PhD can always learn to sign! Anyway, they don’t HAVE to sign well!
When offering services to deaf people, make sure these services are only offered at times convenient to yourself. Case: Norwegian video interpreting not offered on weekends so I can't call between 20.00 on Friday to 08.00 on Monday. #audistjerks
Update: still in chat hell, no phone access!
