Excited to share our new paper:
We uncover a locus coeruleus→amygdala circuit linking β-adrenergic signaling to transcription regulation in defined amygdala cells during memory reconsolidation—+ stress or elevated noradrenergic signaling at recall can strengthen memory.

Ah, no wonder I've felt drawn to associative learning for years now. This explains a lot!
We are excited to share our keynote speakers for the 35th Annual IBNS Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa! Join us June 23-27th!
Thread of French and Dutch research institutes slowly unsubscribing from web of science (and thence impact factors).
My article on how current and former incels negotiate what 'incel' means to them is out. Spoiler: it's complicated.
'Incel' meant very different things to different individuals, but spending time on forums negatively affected all participants' mental well-being.

Nature Sci Rep publishes incoherent AI slop. eLife publishes a paper which the reviewers didn't agree with, making all the comments and responses public with thoughtful commentary. One of these journals got delisted by Web of Science for quality concerns from not doing peer review. Guess which one?
Congrats!

The autumnal oak-in-a-pot certainly looks charming!
Psychedelics disrupt the link between vascular and neuronal activity, which complicates interpretations of fMRI data. Adopting a more holistic view of what constitutes brain activity may help.

Meet the team of EU-SABV!
This is a group of researchers with a special interest of including sex as a biological variable into their work.
For the next 4 years, this team will work to enhance current SABV policy in preclinical research!

New 6-month depression RCT in n=65, serial Ketamine infusions as adjunctive care vs active placebo midazolam.
Ketamine did not outperform primary nor any of the secondary efficacy, cognitive, economic, or quality-of-life outcomes.

I am (finally!) defending my doctoral thesis in late September with a title 'Addiction-related behavioural effects of lysergic acid diethylamide in mice – Exploring the intersection of #psychedelic drugs, #addiction, and #therapeutics'.

A #mead update no 3 - bottling
Didn't end up cold crashing the cyser as it cleared out nicely on its own. I've been lazy, so I got to bottling only now. The taste has a very nice apple flavour to it, no sharpness of alcohol. Added honey at the end, aiming mid-sweet.
Waiting to start a next one!
CONCLUSIONS:
To promote the best science being done, we need to look at the incentives of science publishing and funding. Long-term funding produces better science. Short-term and topical agendas encourages irreproducibility.
Funding model organisms generates science we can build on! 🪰🪱🦠🐠🐁🐸

Had a blast in #ibns2025 @ibnsconnect.bsky.social in Tromsø last week.
Nice people, interesting behavioural science, beautiful scenery, and the northernmost place I've ever visited (and thus experienced the most intense midnight sun, too).
Thanks @cost-teatime.bsky.social for the travel support!
It was a very nice meeting. Thanks for the great work!
The IBNS meeting in Tromsø has come to an end. Thank you all for making it a memorable gathering, both scientifically and socially! Hopefully I see you all in Cape Town next year! @ibnsconnect.bsky.social #IBNS2025 #Tromsø #neuroskyence
I'm wondering whether the effects really even are that high.
Writing this was like any other act of love - awkward at the start, frustrating at times, but something to be proud of. Very grateful to Dr Kristi Griffiths for agreeing to take on this challenge with me for @natrevneuro.nature.com

Sometimes, even quite often, people encounter ‘entities’ on psychedelics, which may give them messages, heal them or sometimes seem to threaten them or cause them harm.
