Ableism is everywhere. Ableism is real.

One year ago on this day was when I've encountered an ableist experience at an employment center. A consultant told me that I don't seem to have autism and somehow, I'll grow out of it. I didn't need a lecture on what can or cannot be permanent in life. I remember how uncomfortable I felt.

Disabled people are not obligated to:

• heed unsolicited advice
• tolerate bigoted opinions
• educate you
• share medical info with you
• justify why they’re on benefits and/or no job
• justify their existence to you
• entertain you
• inspire you
• listen to ableist BS

It's been a long time coming, but I'm proud to confirm that I'll be pursuing my Masters degree in Critical Disability Studies at York University in a few year's time! I'm not technically enrolled (yet) but in the near future. Writing the next chapter of my life 🦁

Disabled and disability aren't slurs. There is no shame in being disabled or part of the disability community.

Trying to avoid using the words disabled or disability puts shame on the words and is actually ableism and eugenics.

Knock it off.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone cherishing and sharing romantic love with their partners. As an aromantic and asexual man, I send my platonic love to all my friends, professors, and family. Cherish the people who bring joy, happiness, and EXTRA love in your life 🩷💘

Deep snow is such a complete environmental barrier for physically disabled and non-visibly disabled people. I usually don't get easily tired on my walks, but holy shit was I out of breath. I had to stop for a few minutes to rest. Inaccessible and unacceptable ☹️ #AODAfail

If you're advocating for racism, you're a racist.

If you're advocating for eugenics, you're a racist.

If you're advocating for racists to get hired or rehired by the government, you're a racist.

One more thing, this DEI conversation has been reduced down to race and it’s so much more. I will always center disability justice in this. We are going to lose so much accessibility.

Learn how to identify and protect neighbours from ICE agents.

Stand up for the LGBTQ+ community.

Wear a mask in solidarity with the disabled community.

Learn about anti-Blackness and commit to doing better.
