SE's Mare response post is... strange? It feels like they're strawmanning against some sort of mod that makes other players see your customizations without them having to install a Mare-like tool and sync with you.

And then there's of course the obvious issue that SE is likely to take far more drastic action if this instance gets popular. The Mare takedown already hit gaming news circles - imagine the headlines if this one gets popular. It would force them to take action, and we're back to square one. (4/4)

Some people say "I'll just use this one until a better one comes up", but the more the bad one gets signal boosted, even if just temporarily, it picks up more momentum. When the "good one" finally launches, it will have to fight an uphill battle against the bad one. (3/?)

Even if you just want you and a few trusted friends to be able to see each others' mods, it puts your friends at risk too. I have some friends that strongly wish for a working Mare alternative (sometimes due to gender identity and such), and I try to caution them (usually to no avail). (2/?)

Unfortunately I feel like people don't fully grasp just how dangerous it is to use - do you *really* want your IP to be logged connecting to a service where that kind of material is openly shared? Do you want to risk any of that getting downloaded to your local Mare cache? (1/?)

in the aftermath here, people will be looking for alternatives. I strongly urge everyone to avoid "LoporritSync", which is a functioning alternate server for Mare hosted primarily by and for people banned from the central server due to explicit mods involving children
