I fucked up the numbering because I cut a chapter but then split one chapter in two. The previous several posts were all about chapter 36, not 35. It's the one that was gobbledegook that I needed to go all Dr. Frankenstein on.

Chapter 36 may be the most important chapter of the middle act and the one that will benefit the most from a beta reader giving very specific criticism.

I'm proud of it but it was very hard to write and even harder to revise and definitely still has room for improvement.

Ch 37 revision tomorrow.

Okay so, Over the Garden Wall is great? Not at all what I was expecting. Closest "if you liked you'll like" analogue I can think of is Infinity Train.

While writing the new chapter 32 (built from fragments of the cut original Ch 32 and a huge chunk stolen from Ch 33) I realized I could end it in a chilling way and I'm sure no reader is ever going to tell me their reaction to it so I'm just going to decide they'll all react the way I'm imagining. 😌

My favorite part of revision is starting to be realizing which multi-page scenes work better as two sentences of narration and which moments I glossed over at first should actually be dug into and fleshed out.

It's like realizing which moments mattered and which didn't and getting a second chance

just watched a youtube video about the history of blahaj and trans folks and started to cry
