Lots lots more to say on the album, I haven’t even mentioned the name of it and I don’t need to, it’s an album that explicitly says that the state in which black people have been treated for decades, especially recently, and the way that’s passed down generations, it’s scarier than any horror movie

Also probably has the most thoughtful use of MF DOOM references I’ve seen since his passing, Born Alone is a crushing song, and thinking of the circumstances in which DOOM died, it gives a different meaning to the line DOOM said like almost 30 years ago

Very few times is he super dejected, that’s what makes the parts when he has that delivery hit extra hard. He’s very blunt with the delivery, all of these horrors are normal to him and to a lot of people that suffer from it in the real world.

There’s a hopelessness to a project like Aethiopes but with the new album, it’s maybe his most detailed, descriptive work with production that adds to that horror, and what really throws a wrench in this and makes you really think is the way woods delivers all of this

But its scariest moment is a very real account of the lynching of Mary Turner. Woods, in his catalog, has often shown that the scariest most horrifying shit is happening in the real world right now or it’s happened before and this new album of his is an encapsulation of that.

Finally listened to the new Billy woods album and I have a lot of thoughts on it. Not to compare but the scariest album I’ve listened to, sonically and lyric wise is Girl with Basket of Fruit by Xiu Xiu and what works amazingly with that album is that it’s an album filled with horrifying content

Overall I liked Summerslam but the ending has left a huge sour taste in my mouth. Firstly, I think I just like evil John as champion more. Might be personal opinion, I was hoping for another heel turn to capture a win, I thought it would’ve made more logical sense, a sudden face turn is so weird.

I think my favorite Bruce albums are when he’s very clearly the standout, like BTR and Nebraska. USA is incredibly written, but it’s the production that’s just a big barrier. I feel if I were introduced to an earlier album, I’d appreciate USA a lot more for what it is.

Stripped back is the wrong term, that’s my bad. On Darkness I feel like the band really shines with their performances, on USA, it feels like a little too much, I’ve never been a fan of that maximalist 80s sound. BTR finds a perfect place where the band is just crushing it, but Bruce is the standout

I like Badlands now but old white people have to learn how to properly hype old white musicians. Talking like Bruce reinvented the wheel by fucking the listeners mom but he’s just making good rock songs at the end of the day

I have now listened to Adam Raised a Cain and I see what yall mean now

Still need to give Darkness a listen but I read all about the album and then listened to a bit of Badlands and I was just thinking “this is the aggression they were talking about”. Maybe it’s that it was absolutely revolutionary for the time. I just don’t see the appeal now, personally. Maybe soon..

This is not a fair take at all, this is genuinely just my opinion. I enjoy some of Born in the USA, I think the writing is amazing for a pop rock sphere, but I think the poppy instrumental is what kills it for me. I get that it’s the point, but I still don’t think it sounds great
