Incredibly powerful investigation in Dutch newspaper NRC: Seven of the worldβs leading genocide scholars β including renowned Holocaust experts β describe Israelβs actions in Gaza as genocidal.
And according to them, nearly all of their peers agree.

Excited about our new working paper "Giving as a self-control problem". We look at information avoidance as an emotion regulation strategy in charitable giving decisions. We find evidence for both strategic avoidance and strategic seeking of emotions.

How Europe must respond as Trump and Putin smash the post-war order
econ.st/3CP3cex

10.02.2025 20:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0right, but prolific (and similar platforms) have an existential incentive to develop screening techniques. Hard to predict who will win this arms race, but I guess we should keep our physical labs around.
10.02.2025 16:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0well, there are many studies that compare lab to online, and my take-away is that the results typically replicate. But you have convinced me AI is a real threat!
10.02.2025 16:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you so much, this is very helpful. I would imagine Prolific being extremely concerned about this, and so should we.
10.02.2025 16:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I see, very interesting.
So you think they did the entire experiment with some kind of AI-plugin?
Are you aware of Prolific taking any action on this?
In what sense would this be different from bots? We have ways to identify bots... Perhaps mainstream AIs are prohibited from posing as human, when asked?
But indeed, if there is no way to screen these 'agents', I agree it's the end of online experimentation.
How did you identify those responses?
10.02.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0ok, that's alarming. Prolific and/or the researchers will need to find a screening procedure for this, or Paolo will be correct after all.
Maybe mainstream AI's are programmed to say they are AI in case they are asked?
