The choice to make them all basic job classes only piles on the guilt. This fight is designed to be easy, and only makes you feel worse as you bring these poor guys down. War sucks. Proxy wars orchestrated by power hungry shadow leaders REALLY suck.

Ramza runs into a group of deserters who are sick of killing, and just want to go home. They're common soldiers unaware of zodiac stone shenanigans. There's no reasoning with them- Ramza is their key to getting back to their families. No one here wants to fight- that's what makes it compelling.
