Mystery in Motion - Native American Inspiration | Louisiana State Museums

The Louisiana State Museums have great exhibitions on Black Mardi Gras & Mardi Gras Indians.

Their origins are likely a mix of historical interactions, Indigenous hospitality to escaped slaves, and the memorable arrival of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West in NOLA.

A branch with cherry blossom flowers and buds reaches towards the viewer, with a thin branch reaching out on the left looking like an arm with a cluster of buds for a hand.

Cherry

Almost good enough to eat.

Long COVID in Children and Adolescents | Mass General Brigham New research shows that long COVID in children and teenagers can appear differently. Learn about the most common long COVID symptoms depending on your child’s age.

I read a part of the comments there and was amazed that many people don't know Covid is ongoing, though deaths are way down thx to vaccines; don't know long Covid exists; don't know long Covid affects children who were asymptomatic during the plague days www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/new...

a blooming toadshade seen from the side, growing up from the tree-leaf-lined forest floor on a stout green stem. the stem terminates in a whorl of three large, slightly mottled, light green leaves, longer than wide, two of which are visible while the third is hidden behind the flower which sits directly on top of the three leaves. the flower had three lance-like sepals spread nearly flat, alternating with three lance-shaped maroon petals standing mostly erect but angled outward. in the center there are six long, erect inward-curving stamens, mostly maroon but fading to green at the top, with yellow anthers on their outside edges facing inward. looking down on a blooming toadshade from directly above to appreciate its 3-fold symmetry. it has three large light green leaves with a modest darker green mottled pattern. alternating with the leaves are three light green sepals which have reddish margins & a reddish patch in the middle by the base. the three maroon petals are aligned with the leaves, offset from the sepals; dark parallel veins run up the petals. in the center six stamens bow towards each other, maroon turning to green on their outsides with yellow on the edges. a colony of toadshades growing among brown and tan fallen tree leaves on the forest floor. each one has three light green mottled leaves; some have green flowerbuds growing on top of their leaves; and others are topped by blooming maroon flowers.

A vividly purple small building housing a dry cleaning business sits in a busy intersection. The back of the building has a corner wall. It features a mural with, on one side, a black and white woman's face and a colorful pair of disembodied eyes looking as if they are peering over a veil. Over all there are the words "You look nice today." The other side shows a grinning black and white woman's face with an orange sun and a clothes hanger with the word "cleaners" in a blue background. Artist Ryan Henry Ward is in the process of painting 1000 Sasquatches across Seattle. This garage door has a cartoon Sasquatch head amiably looking out at passersby. There is a squirrel peering over the legendary creature's head, and some greenery framing the sides.

Murals in the neighborhood: an unknown artist painted the ogling faces on the dry cleaners' building (is that purple enough for you?) and one of Henry's sasquatch's decorates a (converted) garage door
