It’s a lot to process. There’s a lot of important news happening, and the term “doomscrolling” feels trivializing in the face of a situation that is unfolding on people’s doorsteps right now. Yes, it’s very important to stay aware and informed. BUT - it’s also important to be aware of the impact that prolonged acute stress can have on the nervous system. It’s a health hazard in itself, and can result in long term heath problems, including chronic illnesses such as me/cfs. (Ask me how I know… 😞) So, it’s absolutely crucial during this time to take care of yourself and, as much as possible, not get fully swept away in the stress of current events, as scary, nerve-wracking, infuriating, dangerous, and immediate as they are. It was weird to be taken back to that time when the pandemic started raging, but at the same time people were also being killed for dumb reasons. Have we learned anything?

So back to jury duty. Just do it. It's annoying on many levels, but important.

I vaguely remember when it happened. I'd just started watching Seattle Protest Network streams on the regular. Most of those streams are long gone now, though I felt like they belonged in the Smithsonian. The turmoil was worthy of preservation.

I feel so bad for this kid...and his father, and family. I don't think he knew what he was getting into. All parties will learn from this, I hope.

Whatever happened to lead to this outcome was in the evidence, not the lawyer's arguments, I think. And that's what truly matters.

In this case I ended up being the alternate, so I don't know what led to this specific outcome since I didn't participate in the deliberations, though I can hazard a guess. It was all so brutally sad. I am glad of the outcome.

i think this gets at something important which is that normal people are rightly pissed off that they’re having normal time stolen from them by this ravaging horde of jumped up mall cops. everybody has to work in the morning! why is it THEIR job to hold their community together in such a basic way!

You need to know that whether you're a Republican, Independent or Democrat, the Constitution is being violated by our federal government. This is not about catching criminals, or even deporting people. It is about punishing an entire state, including citizens, for not supporting the president. Everyone in my part of Minneapolis is affected. On our streets, ICE is stopping people of color and demanding their papers. In America. US citizens do not have to prove citizenship to ICE. Yet people are being intimidated, some cases beaten up and detained, for requiring ICE to follow the law. ICE needs a judicial warrant to enter homes. Yet there are documented cases of them ignoring the law - violating a bedrock constitutional principle. Americans of color are staying home, afraid to go to work, school, to grocery shop, or fill their cars with gas. This isn't just "illegals" or immigrants with valid work permits, it is citizens who have had their cars rammed by ICE for merely looking Hispanic. Businesses are closing. Schools are 50 percent full. When they are open, fascists are calling in bomb threats because the president decided to make us a meme. After a daycare teacher with a valid work permit (through 2030) was snatched from her workplace, parents (and grandparents) have had to organize to watch their SCHOOLS, to make sure conditional rights are observed. This is being repeated throughout Minnesota. Imagine trying to do your job or live you life while also taking volunteer shifts to make sure the federal government doesn't act extrajudicially. Because of ICE's documented abuses, neighbors have organized to monitor federal actions. This observation is legal, as long as it doesn't interfere with a valid action. Yet since ICE killed Renee Good, they are increasingly stopping this observation, breaking car windows and …”
