We wrote to @mayor.nyc.gov on Feb 24, and created a petition on Feb 25. The petition has now been endorsed by 21 other public health advocacy orgs around the world and hundreds of individuals, many of whom are impacted by this devastating medical condition.

People with Long COVID struggle with their disabilities and lost health, but with no FDA-approved treatments and scant support. In New York, patients face debilitating health declines, financial ruin, and systemic stigma.

With over 400 million people impacted worldwide, the crisis remains dire. 1 in 7 NYC adults—over 940,000 neighbors—have suffered from the Long COVID crisis. Long COVID is now the most common chronic illness among children nationwide.

Crushing that @mayor.nyc.gov rejected our request for a mayoral commendation for Long COVID Awareness Day and light up the City Hall on Mar 15, as 465+ global landmarks will shine in teal to recognize this day of solidarity to offer hope to people with Long COVID.

We wrote to Mayor Mamdani @mayor.nyc.gov but no one has responded to our multiple letters. We wrote to Governor Kathy Hochul @governor.ny.gov and I talked to her staff a week ago but have not heard back. So I turned to other NYC elected officials.🧵
