Perhaps the BBC should look at their own app which I find to be the gloomiest of all

liquefied glass? I thought liquefied glass would be a bit … hot?

I had assumed it would be ground glass powder?

Well I never knew that! I used to meet up with family there a few times in the early 2000's

I wondered why we didn’t know it before

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

“The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions.”

— Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (the Justice's father). The quote is from an 1871 commencement speech at a medical college. In the relevant passage, Holmes is pointing to the benefit of experience for physicians.

Industrial metal pailling gates at the entrance to a factory comprising white painted sheds under a white blanket of cloud. But the full size photograph covers the gates and shows exactly what it looks like when the gates are open: a black tarmac road with white lines each side and white arrows in the middle.

A metaphysical conundrum for a Sunday night. Can I see through the gates? Or have the gaps in the gate been covered over so I can’t see what’s behind?

Britain’s Story: The Next Chapter - the BBC Royal Charter Review, Green Paper and public consultation The government is consulting the public to aid decision-making on the terms for the BBC Charter’s renewal and any changes needed to help the BBC to continue to serve the public.

Just completed the DCMC BBC charter review survey. It's not exactly quick work but it is a labour of love and I would encourage others to give it a go before the closing date on Tuesday. www.gov.uk/government/c...

Bronze statue (Ashmolean Museum)

A bronze statuette of a Hindu saint, acquired by the Ashmolean in 1967, has been returned to a temple in Tamil Nadu. The Ashmolean had been alerted to doubts around its provenance in 2019 and voluntarily approached Indian authorities for an investigation.

I’m surprised they were giving that out in 1974! There was a pre-war copy in my grandparents’ house and I always found it disturbing and unsuitable for children like myself. Which didn’t stop me reading it, though! All part of my impression that people in the past were weird

The Evening After Full Moon just risen over the horizon. Looming over it a giant evergreen tree that sits in the middle of an apple orchard. Everything bar the moon and the March night is in darkness

The giants are in conversation.
