President Donald J. Trump, when will you hold the government of Israel responsible for violating the ceasefire with Gaza?

We are rooting for a real and lasting ceasefire between Israel and Palestine, and you are sitting by as Israel violates it.

The idea that October 7th justifies the killing of 100, 200, 300 times as many Palestinians, erasing huge percentages of a people, of a culture, will never cease to amaze and horrify me.

Let me make something perfectly clear. If Donald Trump weaponizes the death of Charlie Kirk to arrest people for exercising their right to free speech, I as a new father and husband, will be on the streets, firmly on the side of the arrested. Period.

P.P.S. This is also not to gloss over the number of ethnic and religious minority groups in the area in question, including Palestinian Christians, the different sects of Islam in the region, secular groupings, etc. They of course must play a part too!

P.S. Something worth mentioning from a recent convo with someone I admire and respect. The roots of this conflict are not that Jewish people in the Levant and Muslim Palestinian Arabs are inherently incompatible. That’s neocolonial propaganda. But it is *hard* to dismantle.

I know it’s difficult to grapple with how the remainder of the Palestinian people (which I dearly hope will be allowed to remain) will face new ethnically/religiously Jewish leadership in the Levant.

But we have to start grappling with it now. Or any peace may be forfeit. /🧵

What happens if the new leaders that replace the Israeli war cabinet and Fatah don’t want reconciliation even if they agree to a state, which they very well might not?

We have to think about how the global community would and should respond to that. 4/

We have to push for a fulsome truth and reconciliation commission. Leaders will need to pay for genocide. But then new leaders from both sides will need to agree that reconciliation is necessary.

And we have to prepare for the possibility that they won’t agree to that. 3/

I hope it’s not too trite or superficial to say that Jewish people and Muslim Arab Palestinians in the Levant do not get along.

Even if we get a single state with equal rights, the deep resentment and pain will remain. There needs to be a fulsome reckoning with that. 2/

I am so worried for the people of Gaza, and for the cause of a Palestinian state writ large. The genocide might be nearing completion.

What I will add is that no one has solved the problem of how Jewish people and Muslim Palestinian Arabs will live side by side in the Levant. 🧵

By the way, there is likely so much more to come out about this shooting that will shed light on the details, but I definitely wanted to get ahead of the anti-trans backlash that is inevitably coming here. Overall, I’m doing my best not to jump to conclusions myself as well.

We need to actually #ProtectTransLives and #TransRights, instead of using them as a political football.

Israel’s IOF has advanced past the active murder phase of the Gaza genocide to the even-more-cruel “shut the doors of the open-air prison and wait for them to starve to death” phase. I’m going to go throw up now.

I would like to think both leftists and liberals would be ready and willing to reject the politics of Cuomo, *and* the politics that say there should be no further accountability for Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex trafficking ring.

It would suck if that proved to not be the case.

Folks like Senator Gilibrand expose their ignorance about Islam and the Arabic language so readily it’s wild.

Both terms, jihad and intifada, are at their root about striving to be better people and build community-oriented societies.

You don’t have to be religious to get this.

So far, I have been really disheartened by how Greater Boston politicians seem to be resting on their laurels in light of the Zohran Mamdani primary win.

This is the time to harness that energy, folks, bring it home, and build more wins for leftism.

History shows us that it is movement politics, not electoral politics, that make real change happen. We can appreciate the spark Zohran Mamdani has lit, without overstating the impact, or understating the work that is left to be done.
