So happy to see this out! We have data on 5,000+ voters and 26,000 candidates exploring the effects of sexism across 4 countries ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

TLDR: gendered patterns of political competition strongly shape success rates of women candidates. Sexism may lead to voter abstention in the US.

More in the paper!

What do parents want? Preferences on parental leave My second daughter is almost turning one and with that I have reached the end of my maternity leave for her. Yes โ€“ you read that correctly, I was able to take a full year of paid leave here iโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m very interested in studying preferences on parental leave and wrote something short on it - would be interested in any leads on further data or cool papers I should be reading!

This looks like a brilliant and super interesting book - if youโ€™re lucky enough to be in London UK and interested in gender / quotas / comparative politics / LA or all of the above you should go to the launch!

Misschien zijn ze bang dat het electoraal moeilijk ligt en verwachten ze binnenkort een verkiezing? Of een soort trauma van de euro crisis ๐Ÿค”? Maar ja.. rationeel is het niet

Gen Z doubts about democracy laid bare in โ€˜worryingโ€™ survey More than half believe the UK should be a dictatorship and thereโ€™s a stark gender divide over equality, research for Channel 4 shows

I think we should take this story from the Times today (and picked up by many other outlets) with an enormous pinch of salt for two reason (mini thread):

WEC seeks views on statutory paternity and shared parental leave - Committees - UK Parliament The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) is today (Friday, 6 December) launching a call for written evidence on statutory paternity and shared parental leave to examine options for reform.

With our first child my husband and I took shared parental leave (SPL) in the UK - it was a great experience, but financially costly.

It shouldn't be that way in my view. So take the opportunity to share your experiences with SPL with the gov. here:

Sadly I donโ€™t have tips - never written a book ๐Ÿ˜ฌ but given the big populism/radical right scholarly community in the Netherlands there must be lots of interest I would think!
