"Poultry farm" sounds quaint. In reality, Duncan Farms is a multi-million pounds business with 300,000 birds.

NFUS says thoughts are with "the keeper". Not, you know, the animals.

He says the operation is for food but of course we have choices these days our predecessors did not. And he says we don't care about other cruel activities such as fox hunting. Even the quickest of googles would show this is not the case. 🤷‍♂️

Tiresome stuff in the P&J from Iain Maciver, attempting to defend the cruel and unnecessary killing of hundreds of baby gannets. He says the method of dispatch is rapid but what is his evidence? He ignores the distress the birds, both juvenile and adult, must experience as the removal takes place...

❗Yesterday, we responded to reports that NatureScot has granted a licence to allow the killing of up to 500 baby gannets.

The news that the traditional guga hunt had been approved to return later this year gained significant media coverage & raised public awareness of this archaic practice.

BBC Scotland's coverage of the guga hunt story made me sick. Pro-hunt interviewee allowed to waffle about 'urbanites with morals'. As he describes cooking gannets the presenter *laughs*, asking what it tastes like. 'It's put me off my tea' she giggles to the weatherman coz it's an 'and finally'. 🤮

Heard NatureScot on Radio Scotland describing this as a "harvest", like 500 fledglings is a crop, and the presenter laughing at this "fascinating story", having wondered about the taste: "Gosh, I've never tried it". 🤮 Zero questions about welfare or any mention of ethics.

Stealing hundreds of gannet chicks from their nests and bashing their heads in, all in the name of "tradition". 😡 We have choices in today's society and this is the wrong choice.

Egg farm doubles capacity as UK consumption tops 13 billion Farmlay Eggs in Aberdeenshire welcomes surge in demand after a challenging few years for the industry.

Great for business but at what cost to the birds, the unwanted male chicks, the environment? Small mention of supermarkets hopefully going "cage free" but this doesn't mean free range - it will mean barns where hens don't have outdoor access or daylight. ❤️🐓
