For the dozen or so of my 2.8k followers who are interested in club culture and dance music history and who may have missed this posting y/day evening here's something I wrote in the late 90s and early 00s. Read the rest of the thread if you have time too. "Between thought and expression."

Tales of the Suburbs: LGBTQ+ Lives Behind Net Curtains by John Grindrod

A very happy publication day to @grindrod.bsky.social and a revelatory book about extraordinary people in ordinary places. I think it's his best yet.

Bit of a long shot but does anyone have a scan of TV Times for the Southern region (or any neighbouring region) for 11th - 17th September 1975?

Ink drawing with pencil colours on green paper. It is indeed a sort of owl, in flight. No background, just green. The owl is flying from right to left. Now then. This isn't the easiest thing to describe. The owl body is horizontal, and the front of the owl is sort of like a loaf of bread - its face is flat, white, two little humps at the top, tiny eyes and a tiny beak. From there, the body carries on backwards initially the same size as the face but then tapers away till the end of it is tiny. Under the face, hanging by a hinge, is a sort-of face cover, not in use at the moment, the same size and shape as the owl's face, and with eye holes at the right points. The owl's body is dark blue, fading up to light green with a white streak of light across the top. The wings are the same blue, but each feather fades to a bright pink as it goes along.

New picture. An owl. Sort of.

In 1989, Renault chose to advertise their new Renault 21 with this frankly incredible homage to Scarred for Life Year Zero programme The Prisoner. Enn Reitel stands in for Patrick McGoohan's voice at the end. They tried to get the man himself, and I can imagine how well that conversation went...

From this distance, looks like it might feature all the roads and railways as well.

Political rhetoric currently so often a cross between the worst stand-up you ever saw and some best man speeches.

Seen relatively few bad gigs but that was one. Not that I went to see them, as such, it was indie night (1991, so it was varied fare) and they interrupted it.

ASTRO MAMBO!, by The Bionics 7 track album

I'm sixty today, and weirdly I've never been happier. So my gift to YOU is my best work, with artwork by the amazing @happytoast.co.uk

It would make for a lovely present if you'd have a listen, ideal for driving, or some light dusting. xx

The perfect version was the one on the CD single which was a combination of the single mix and the mad outro from the extended version. They played it one week on the R1 top 40.

God I love LRB. Resubscribed end of last year, so glad I did. Intimidatingly good writing, if you're a writer. Everyone else can just enjoy it.

I will never not be a bit startled when someone I’ve heard of but don’t know starts following.

Two blockings I regret from that Twitter. One, a film critic. Another, a veteran comedy writer who’d been following and everything, and the only thing I can think in both cases is that possibly I’d been a little irreverent about someone they knew personally.

I do love showbiz biogs when they reflect a bit at times and go, 'Hmm, you know what? I was wrong/misguided/stupid about that.' Doesn't really happen in this one.
