I subscribe to a lot of archive sources! But Lloyd has talked about it a few times. Very much based on police attitudes at the time.

He was a real police officer in, I think, Hampshire. I don’t think he wrote any other comedy. Interestingly, it seems he had worked in Botswana in his early career.
