At the time of her desth, she was survived by four children. And one of those children, her oldest daughter, had to write this obituary.

Ernest C Pollard was survived by three children, not two, and he woukd have been horrified that his oldest daughter was not mentioned.

On August 18th, 1972, Anne Pollard White drove to a motel in Frederick, Maryland and rented a room for the night. She killed herself by slitting her wrists with a razor and taking an overdose of sleeping pills.

She did not want to be a burden on her family, especially her four children, who she loved deeply and with a warm maternal love that her daughter remembers decades later.

This happened before today's modern anti-psychotics were developed and she took medications that made it difficult to think clearly - a zombie effect.

However, the stress of raising four children without adequate childcare began to impact her mental health.

The couple settled in Maryland, close to Washington, DC where Anne Pollard White worked with the National Organization of Women.

She was particularly interested in how severe nutritional deficiencies among the people of Uganda affected their mental health.
