Joan de Art (Becca Bowlin) Chicago artist, environmentalist, and community organizer. she/her

...No shade to soft and cozy solarpunk, of course :) I just like seeing different takes on it.

Joan de Art also has some great stuff up here, with specific solutions labeled as part of holistic location designs: storyseedlibrary.org/authors/joan...

I like Jacob Coffin's work with the President Deer comics. It's not the usual soft pastel solarpunk vibe – with a distinct photobashing aesthetic and interesting worldbuilding: jacobcoffinwrites.wordpress.com/2024/04/20/p...

Who are your favorite solarpunk illustrators and visual artists? Links and images please! My brain needs some nice things.

My award-winning comic BRAINS is back in stock at Radiator Comics, you can snag a copy for $15. It's 40 pages of colorfully illustrated ruminations on the brain, cognition, thinking, perceiving and BEING human in the face of all this so-called AI garbage.

Brains... I just think they're neat!

Oooo, I've never put a fountain pen in my AxiDraw, though I have a few (and the mount does the tilty thing for it). Care to share any tips for which types work well? The Lamy Safari seems popular, but I'd assumed that was just because it's a popular pen in general.

Tomorrow! Live companion bot building 🤩

I really like the Alvik – it's cute and approachable, but when I did the unboxing a couple years ago, I realized that its components and API are way more powerful than it lets on: www.hackster.io/glowascii/fi...

Glad to finally come back to it!

Going live in ~45! I first saw the Orchard at SiliCon '22, and have been wanting to interview Ching-Ching about it ever since. It's a 14-platform modular fab system, which SOMEHOW runs quietly!?! I believe Ching is bringing some extra bits and bobs to show onscreen, too 🤩

Watch live or recorded:

Outer Wilds also has a wonderful modding community! I hadn't tried using mods before, but I set up a Windows machine so I could try things like co-op and "soundtrack replaced by kazoos" and "everything is huggable". outerwildsmods.com

I really want to try the fan-made storylines, too!

I had to trade some of those parts off while co-playing 😅 Someday I'll have to replay it with this on... the game is such a treat, I'm glad they made it accessible for weenies.

It does!! AND there is a mod that replaces the entire thing with (masterfully executed) kazoos. 😆

Steadman's illustration for "Fool", in his trademark splotchy black ink. The definition (longish) reads:
"Fool, n. A person who pervades the domain of intellectual speculation and diffuses himself through the channels of moral activity. He is omnific, omniform, omnipercipient, omniscient, omnipotent. He it was who invented letters, printing, the railroad, the steamboat, the telegraph, the platitude, and the circle of the sciences. He created patriotism and taught the nations war – founded theology, philosophy, law, medicine and Chicago. He established monarchical and republican government. He is from everlasting to everlasting – such as creation's dawn beheld he fooleth now. In the morning of time he sang upon primitive hills, and in the noonday of existence headed the procession of being. His grandmotherly hand has warmly tucked in the set sun of civilization, and in the twilight he prepares Man's evening meal of milk-and-morality and turns down the covers of the universal grave. And after the rest of us shall have retired for the night of eternal oblivion he will sit up to write a history of human civilization."

This book is so good :D I have the version with illustrations by Ralph Steadman (of Fear & Loathing)! An incredible match-up

[I didn't mean the selection as a commentary, but here we are]

Some e-bike manufacturers use parts that lock you into their ecosystem and make repairs difficult.

But you can always just take that stuff off and hack the e-bike back into functionality if you really want to.
